    Hello, I am new on this forum, I got a blackberry 9790 last week but I am having some issues with it, and since it seems this is one of the best places on the net where to ask informations about these phones, I am here
    My 9790 is brand-new and it has 7.0 os, all stock, yesterday I wanted to install some apps but the app world store says I need to update the phone OS up to 7.1 in order to use it and thus all the apps like whatsapp, facebook, etc... cannot be installed so far. Unfortunatelly I cannot update it neither trought the phone using OTA (there is no software update menu in phone options) nor trought the desktop manager downloaded from the blackberry site ( it says there is 7.1 update but it does not allow me to install it). Is there any possibility to solve bymyself this problem? or should i ask for the RIM support service? Thanks in advance for the help

    Yep, just download the OS straight from the blackberry. It shoul be around 200++MB
    Once complete you can install the OS and don't forget to find the vendor.xml and delete it(just Google it)

    Do a backup and then wipe your phone clean and it will be replaced with error number.

    Just run the OS and connect your 9790 to PC

    Maybe someone can help you better. I've been separated from my 9790 for a while now coz I have a Z10 so I don't exactly remember the process haha

    Thanks for your reply, I have done what you said and I have even downloaded the update, which is even listed in the device manager on my pc, but it still does not allow me to install it on my phone. I have deleted the vendor.xml as well, but nothing

    Did you delete the second, hidden VENDOR.XML file in the hidden folder on your computer?

    Search the WHOLE computer. Make sure that there are NO hidden files or folders on your computer.

    is your BIS active my 9900 had the same problem but once I activated BIS on that line everything worked out.

    well than I can't think of anything else, most common problem while updating 9900 & 9790 is that BIS has to be active, take it to a service center they will update it for you.

    BIS being active has NOTHING to do with with being able to update using the Loader.exe.

    The OP still has not confirmed whether or not ALL the vendor.xml files including the hidden one were deleted.

    I also thought that, but my 9900 did not update to a new OS and I have been updating my bbs since 9700, 9780, 9800. That about 3-4 years between them and never have I required BIS for updating but apparently 9900 and 9790 do not update without active BIS, the curve series ie 9220/9320 update without BIS, there is even an error message in BB Desktop software that software cannot be updated without active BIS connection.

    just updated my 9790 today and i had to add new software (did'nt have to with my 9320) took a while but works fine.
