My #4/s get stuck sometimes when I dial out or when I need to press 4 when I am on a call. I have had the phone replaced couple of times and still the same issue.

i only had my 9700 for less than 3 weeks and i absolutely hate that fkn keyboard
its small and the keys are oddly shaped which forces me to use my fingernails to type.

a week ago i notticed that the coating on the keys is wearing off already

    2fkn weeks old damn it!!!!!!!!!!!

i already have 3 keys with light poking thru the hole in the coating

    wtf RIM

i really hate to say this because i love the blackbery phone but it seems that the quality goes down the drain with these new devices

im so disapointed because i paid over 500 dollars for this damn phone.
Huh you use your fingernails to type on it? Paint is rubbing off... think about what you are saying, of course the paint will rub off when you use your fingernails.

Had mine since release and the keyboard/keys are amazing. No rubbing off and totally used to the size difference now.

I've just switched from the 8900 to the 9700. In general the 9700 just runs "smoother" that my 8900 did. The screen display seems somehow "crisper" on the 9700. I'm still getting used to the keyboard. The tightness of the keys doesn't bother me as much as the shape of the keys. And I find it difficult to hit keys like the enter key while using my BodyGlove case. There is no space between the lip of the case and the keys...finding that frustrating, but not a deal breaker.

I've had no quality problems.....everything is working just fine.

I went straight to a 9000, which has a similar keyboard to the 9700. The shape of the keys makes it easy to type if you don't fight it.

Agreed with OP about the way the keypads r made, not to the extent for hating typing it, but u hv to use thumb nails to effectively typing. Love the 8900 curve keypads much more since they r individually evenly spaced n slightly raised n "confined" within keypad frame. RIM designers r absurd to make its top Bb phones "pretty but impractical" to save cost.
Btw I m using both phones all d times, don't think I can adapt to bold2 keypads fast enough. No quality issues though, had bb since 8100 model 5 yrs back.

Love my phone, no issues on this one (is a replacement due to wifi issue on 1st one) i prefer teh old curve keyboard though, i liked the click and don't care for the ridges on the 9700, not a deal breaker for me though

Well I am going on two months without an issue...seems I am one of the lucky few with no issues. Mine was built in Mexico too.

Then again people that don't have problems with their phone don't generally make threads about them.

I am still gonna knock on wood, lol!

I love my 9700 so far. I was always anti-blackberry (bar phones) I said I would keep my bb flip forever until it kept giving me a error 527 code or something. I got the 9700 and loved it until it was stolen yesterday.. Now I'm back to my replacement flip until the remaining 5 people on my family plan pay their PAST DUE balance so I can order a new one..

However I did notice some paint chipping off the keys after about 5 months.. The keys also appear to come off easily (my youngest did a number on them), haha

I used to have a Palm Treo Pro, and let me tell you, the 9700's keyboard is roomy compared to that. I have no complaints, but then again, I've only owned mine for two days

I just found out from ATT support that the keys have a bad habit of popping out. Today on my new (3 month old) 9700 while standing on the subway, I noticed no L key after I took he phone out of my case. So I got an exchange.
The tech people say that BB doesn't acknowledge this problem but that they were getting a lot of 9700's in with similar key issues.

I actually like the shape of the keys. Once you get used to them, it is very easy to type without looking. I use my thumbs and feel for the raised corners, rarely making any mistakes. I've had this phone for over four months and no sign of wear yet. Great phone for me so far!!!

currently have both the 8900(8 months) and 9700(1 month). I'm actually surprised with how well the 8900 keys have held up. Still look nice, and the unit itself looks pretty good. 9700, we'll see. Seems fine though.

Sucks you've had such a bad experience.

How are keys just popping out? I thought that they all are made of a vacuum formed piece of plastic and attached to each other. That's bizarre.

Does anyone know if paint chipping off is actually covered under the manufacturer's warranty? I've had my 9700 for 7 months now and it's starting to chip on the N button.

My D key is starting to lose paint over the raised bump on it. It doesn't surprise me as I type with the tips of my fingers and with the nail brushing it was bound to have an affect. I'll be checking to see warranty so I'll let you know.

It must be a new supplier. I just got. Bold 9650 and my keys are pealing. This never happened on any other devices I've had.
