If the "insider info" says it will be out Nov/Dec of this year, that means it probably will be July 2010 if you're lucky.

No trackpad. Exact same Tour except with the addition of WiFi.

Any chance RIM decided to add the trackpad to the WiFi version due to the initial problems associated with the Tour's trackball since launch?

I highly doubt it. Wouldn't make much sense. If they wanted to fix any sort of trackball problem, they would fix it directly and not just swap it out with a trackpad.

i believe it having a trackpad. rim wants to move in that direction and it is a different phone. it isnt a repackaged 9630...

    My thoughts exactly.

I think that person totally made that post up without actually getting any hardcore facts from Sprint themselves. They put optical trackball when its a optical trackpad. I think the new Tour will only offer wi-fi as the only difference and maybe the 32 gig as the maximum support of the micro sd card. Just think some people are going to rush out and grab this phone again just to have the wi-fi when most Sprint users don't even need wi-fi.

This would be awesome if it made its way to Verizon. Of course 400,000+ current Tour owners would be screaming if that happened.

It's been said that trackpads are being put into entry-level devices. The workhorses still get the trackballs.

So you're telling me that a 9650 with the same exact specifications, plus WiFi and a trackpad would be a COMPLETELY different phone? And this would come out only a few months after the Tour? Now please explain how that would make any sense...

I don't know if they'll be similar, but I've used my wife's Samsung Omnia before and the trackpad is not my bag. It jumps around quite a bit and I prefer the tactile sensation of the trackball.

Agree. 96XX is 96XX. Same phone, slightly different features.

And there's no way Sprint is getting another new BB this year. Heck, I'd been waiting 18 months for this Tour to drop! It's a miracle Big Red (read: VZW) didn't grab first rights to sell the 9630 for six months before letting the red-headed step child (read: Sprint) get a crack at it.

i love my current tour and probably won't end up switching when/if this repackaged tour comes out. i just can't understand why sprint won't just get a whole other model instead of the same one, even though the tour is a great model.

I am sure the track pad will be nice, but I really don't understand all the hype. What is it that makes it so special? All I see right now is more problems.

I don't think that that's true. The Onyx is supposedly going to have a trackpad instead of a trackball.

I will be highly pissed if they drop that wifi version. But luckily I still have 30 days. But still that's not cool and yes, Sprint is the red head stepchild!

I've heard trackpads are quite finicky when you've got sweaty fingers. Bad for hot humid summer days.
