OK, when I get home I'll be trying this.
Nope, not really although it is generally recommended. I have updated my OS 3 times and have only deleted the vendor file once for one of those updates. :)
tried it and the only 5.0 update was or DM
I hit update. Could not really hurt to have the most up to date files.
Go to your PC > Desktop Manager > help > about Desktop Manager > Device software and screenshot that
I had DM5.0.08 and 5.0.0.100 on my phone; this morning DM installed an automatic update to 5.0.0.11; now when I plugged in my phone it offered to update the blackberry core applications to 5.0.0. I wasnt sure if it was going to change it to .93 like the OP or something higher than my current .100, so i cancelled it.
UPDATE: I went back and checked the OS folder on my computer, it looks like the DM update basically added the files that I deleted during my installation like the games, backgrounds; I deleted these files again and when I connected my phone, it no longer offered the OS update.
The current release of DM is 5.0.0.11 Jul 1 2009
When the OP installed the new DM on his PC he/she might have had an older version. If the DM "options" was set to check for upgrades: the program was looking for the latest version of DM (not the phone's OS).
When the DM is asked to check for latest version of the phones OS it will likely say that it is .167 (for an ATT branded phone)
If he did not load a OS 5.x onto his computer then the OP should verify that the phone OS is NOT a 5.x version
and the DM "help" should say it is the 5.x version
