People who know about the device wont give a rat's *** about the name...those that dont, well that's a different story.

With a name like Merlin, it better pull some magic tricks or something lol

In all seriousness, a name is a big deal for whatever product you market because it creates a mindset so to speak. Take the Bold, its BIG + POWERFUL and its name is rightfully so. People will buy something based SOLELY on the name alone (which is stupid unless your brand conscious) or completely avoid it all together. I hope they just do what they did with the 8900 Curve and just call it the 9700 Bold.

This is most certainly a deal breaker!!!

    Not.

Edit: I still think Merlin is a better device name than the "MyTouch 3G."

For all I care, they can call it Donkey A$$ and paint it pink with brown stripes, put any annoying ring tone they wish, as long as they give me one... You can use the same formula, should you wish to give me
    - Bentley
    - Omega watch
    - Thinkpad T400S
    and many, many other toys...

It is not the name, ppl

if i were rim, i would kept merlin as codename, and onyx as the real name. onyx gives it that edge.
i think rim has turned this naming thing into a circus with giving its products names like merlin, tour, gemini.

Ya seriously who cares about the name as long as it works. Of course I really don't like the name change as what is it trying to say the phone works magic or something Hahaha. But oh well it's still ok & get over it!

Agree with C X, the name is realtively unimportant

Having said that, I think Merlin is O..K

I don't really care what they name it either...I'm using a 3GS right now, and somewhat starting to miss Blackberry (sold my Bold)...so, I just want them to release it so then I can be on my merry way switching between the 2 until my heart's content

Well, do I like it?? Of course I don't but it's relatively unimportant though, in the big scheme of things. I don't know why RIM does what it does. My Javelin will always be my Javelin. We fell in love with the "Niagara" and just before they released it they changed it to the Tour. Same thing for the "Thunder" (Storm), "Javelin" and now the "Onyx" which means it will be released soon. At least they don't do like Microsoft and have code names named after Ski resorts and Bars in those Ski resorts (Whistler [XP], Longhorn [Vista] and Vienna [Windows 7])

I'm with you, I don't know if all these code name changes are meant to throw us off, but I just want the phone already!
