Is RIM going to release a better and longer lasting battery in the JM1 battery size sometime in the future?

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com

I don't know if its up to RIM. I don't think ,whoever manufactures the battery, can pack that much power on such a small, thin battery.

Wow, just spent quite a bit of time skimming through all these posts. I've been wondering where to put my two cents on this issue, and am glad to find this centralized thread for "BlackBerry Bold 9900 Battery Issues/Tips".

I experienced a major difference between the original VZ 7.0.0.254 and the latest VZ 7.1.0.163. After installing 7.1, my battery drain quickly jumped to double digits with little or no usage. I gave the OS a few days to settle in, and still experienced huge drain. Normally, I could make it through a work day on one charge with medium usage, but with 7.1 my battery would barely make it to lunch. Same usage, same apps, same location (coverage) same everything.

I downgraded to VZ 7.0.0.374, and my usage is right back to where it was before. With little usage, I get about 1-2% battery drain per hour. I'm thinking about trying 7.1 again, but I'm concerned my battery drain issues are related to that OS, or perhaps some of the extras VZ bundled in (Wikitude, Mobile Hotspot, etc.).

Has anyone experienced a huge difference in battery life when upgrading from 7.0 to 7.1, or am I the only one?

Depends on as well how many apps are running in the background. If you have about 5 apps you didn't close that will drain the battery. I updated to OS 7.1 and changed the setting of the built in battery saver function from @ 20 percent of power left to always and my phone lasts all day.

I also set my backlight to 30 to 40 percent and just go into options
In os 7.1 and enable battery saver to always works great

I'm using the latest OS: 7.1.0.342 for my 9900. I went from 7.0.0.585 so I can't comment on releases in between.

I can, without any hesitation, say that 7.1.0.342 is much better than 7.0.0.585 when it comes to battery life. Please not the following for my 9900:

    Bride is ALWAYS ON
    Bluetooth is ALWAYS ON
    Wi-Fi is ALWAYS ON

I usually get up at 5:00 a.m. and by 9:00 p.m. I would have about 20% left with 7.0.0.585. With 7.1.0.342 I am sitting at 50% or more.

I do have "Battery Saving Mode" ALWAYS ON. I'm not sure what it does, but it seems to extend battery life.

I have come to the conclusion that with my regular use, I can get two full days our of my 9900 now. That's OK with me.

Update your OS to get the real 9900 experience.

.342 is ancient, latest availabe build is .714, do the math !!!

I will connecting my 9900 to my laptop while I am at work. Plugged into the Car Charger while in the car. In the Dock when I get Home. I have a feeling I am not going to have a battery issue at all.......

I have issue with my BB9900 battery, I'm using DoCoMo OS .923, problem is:
I put my phone to charger untill it's fully charged, when I remove it from charger, and after minute or so I check my battery status it says 90%. Other than that battery lasts normaly (like to any other user). I must mention that I don't have any app that is running in background (like WhatsApp, or anything similar). I don't have BIS.
    Any ideas?
