    Hello,

I am new to the 9780, but tried and tested with some previous BB models.

I have looked around but have not found extensive info on this topic like the 9700 thread had.

What is the most stable and most efficient OS available for the 9780?

    I am currently running 6.0.0.285

    Thanks.

Welcome! Yikes, that's an old OS. Time for an upgrade, definitely. Try. 600. I find it relatively stable and most people here have given it good reviews. You can find it as a sticky thread at the top of this sub forum. You can download from vodafone or one of the other links. Check out BlackBerry Help under the tabs if you have never installed an OS before. Ask for help if you need it! Good luck!

What are the main advantages of the newest FW out there, like the .650?

    @taita

New OS builds doesn't necessarily mean better. Its just a few that are very stable and an increase in speed is noticeable. For the advantages of the .650, it works very well. So far its given the best performance out of my BB. It works fast, doesn't crash etc. Just stick with the official .600 or the .650. Both are amazing builds for the 9780.

OS updates please, don't call them firmwares :P You don't update the firmware on your PC, you update the OS.

All (ALL. Period.) OS versions prior to the .4xx had loads and loads of bugs, some easy to mistake as features, some terrible. I had .28x/.29x for a day and jumped right to .35x when it was released (forgive the "x"s memory is low right now).

.4xx releases started giving us fixes and when we got to.5xx we were dealing with small improvements.

As said before, newer does not mean better, but older surely means buggier.

.600 was garbage on my phone. Hourglassed like no one's business and screwed my media player all to ****. Not sure why I got the short end of the stick on that one.

I'm using http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-...l-java-635646/ now. If you decide to go with that one, you'll most likely have to install BBM on top afterward at www.blackberry.com/messenger Not a huge deal. It runs silky smooth though as I think he pulled quite a bit of the com files from OS7.

Anyway, look around. If you don't feel comfortable going with unreleased stuff (although that one above is a one click install minus bbm), then stick with the official releases.

Been using a 6.0.0.600 Hybrid 9700 OS on my 9780 for the past month now...longest I've ever gone without a OS upgrade! It runs pretty well. No probs. No reason switch. Might try the new 6.0.0.650 soon.

Yeah. .600 non-hybrid was garbage on my 9780, so I went with this and its amazing so far. I mean, if there are no problems, why switch?

I will switch when I get a new phone now.

Same here. To find the best OS, you'll have to install different ones and use them to see which works best for you. Some like .5xx builds, some prefer the .6xx. I've tried those ones and they were horrible for me so I'm stuck using .480.

600 is the best no question!

Don't try any Hybrids! They usually are fast, but mess up many things without you knowing it, and they're battery life sucks!

I am currently running on .600 and I have noticed some bugs and glitches I am not pleased with. I'm not sure if its just my bold 9780, but I have a thread that outlines 2 of my problems if you wanted to check it out. Im going to downgrade and see if my problem is fixed.
