Is BB OS 7.x officially dead ?Are we forced to upgrade to BB10....Problem is RIM has history of releasing unfinished & un matured OS.I have purchase BB9700 (OS5), BB9780 (OS6) & BB9900 (OS7.x) and all were abandoned within a year.Hence I can't be sure whether BB10 is what RIM will adopt and safe to purchase.

Legacy OS will be around for a long time to come...

Not at all, BlackBerry are still developing app updates as we speak. A beta upgrade of the Facebook app came out a few days ago as did a BlackBerry desktop manager update. For os 7 that is and the os is stable and certainly not un finished

I would think BB7 will die off just like WM did when WP7 came. I'd jump over to BB10 and get used to the new OS and grow with it.

The difference is that BB10 is BlackBerry's strategy for the next decade or so. There is absolutely no chance of them abandoning it. The Z10 will definitely, without a doubt, get updated to the next OS as well, as it has already been confirmed to get the 10.1 update when the Q10 comes out, so definitely expect it to get 10.2 or whatever is next when the next flagship touch screen is released (probably December 2013, or early 2014)

OS7 devices will be around for a while, have not heard of any OS7 devices being discontinued.

Think there are a number of business and gov account that are not "ready" for BB10 yet. And many overseas markets are going to want to keep their BIS connected OS7 devices rather than BB10.

OS7 will be around for a long time. As many have already stated.

A perfect example is the just previously release numbers from BBRY that stated in the last quarter they shipped out 6 million devices. Only 1 million of those being the new BB10 devices.
As BBRY has said many times, they are trying to grab the attention of all the emerging markets around the world. OS7 devices are perfect for them to do this. They are going to be am affordable device for people in say third world countries.
