Can anyone tell me what the blackberry icon next to 3G means? This afternoon this symbol disappeared and I noticed I couldn't send or receive emails. It was only after I did a reboot that the symbol came back and everything was normal again...

    Thanks!

It means you are configured for and connected to BIS. E-mail will only work when you are connected to it.

It means you are on 3G network and this allows simulatenous data and voice transmission. You will be able to surf the web and send/receive emails while a call is in progress.

Also BBM will not work when you're not connected.

Sounds like you're referring to the soud enhancement icon which appears during a phone call. This will show up if you select bass or treble booster in phone option.

Yes!! I did mean the 4 dots next to 3G. I thought that I only needed to be on 3G or Edge to be able to send messages. Didnt realise that the 4 sq dot symbol meant something too. Is there anyway to get the 4 dots back without doing a battery pull?? Also, what triggered it to disappear?? I didnt change any phone options!!

THanks for the quick responses so far! Much appreciated

It sounds like something weird is happening with your data connection. The BB symbol means you are connected to BIS. If that's missing, you do not have data. Check your data connections to make sure it's connected. If it is, try another battery pull to see if it comes back on. If not, I would call AT&T and see if it's something at their end.

I got a text from "BlackBerry" today saying that "your handheld has been registered with the wireless network." And now there is the BlackBerry logo next to the 3G.

My work pays for my service so I guess it's possible that they added data to my plan today. I wasn't at the office today so I'll have to find out.

I have done all I need to do for weeks now. I have called the network provider. Used other sim cards with BIS subscription on It. I have used bbstak to wipe and reinstall the latest OS. I have even done diagnostic test on the network and nothing. The RIM icon beside the 3G does not come up and sometimes it shows Α small letter gprs. Yet I can't assess the internet or receive mails from My new phone. I feel like throwing away this blackberry. Right now I subscription I did would soon expire. What do you think I can do. Can anyone help?
