Hey guys, how do i get more application memory ? im down to the red zone, but funny thing is... i have a 4 gb micro sd and 898mb free for device memory.. is there anyway to allocate it somehow ? thanks

Your card and the device storage are not memory. You need to make sure you are closing apps properly when you're done with them and get rid of any you don't need. Once your memory gets too low it will start deleting e-mails, SMS and MMS automatically to try and free up space. Battery pulls which reset the device will clean your memory back up too.

You can save some memory by deleting unwanted apps (voice dialling, docs to go, tasks, BB maps etc), unused language packs, emails with huge attachments and some old SMS... Do a battery pull and see whether this helps....

If you don't use it or only use it rarely, deleting BB Messenger frees up a sizeable chunk of memory and drastically slows down memory leakage.
These are all good ideas to free up memory. It still doesn't answer the question about why one has to do this in the first place. I was standing in line at a food place and talking with the guy in front of me. I was comparing my Storm 9530 to his iPhone. He had literally thousands of apps installed with no memory issues. True not all were actively running, but he didn't have to delete some apps, be careful to close others after use, or do a battery pull so he could continue to use his device.
Speaking for myself, if Blackberry (RIM) doesn't come up with a solution (and no, increasing application memory from 128MB to 256MB on the Storm 2 is not a solution) then I will look elsewhere when my contract is up. Most business owners do not have hours to spend looking for answers to questions such as this.

i have no idea why i need to monitor the memory status in always,
to avoid deleting something by itself...
but, i still love my 9000.
i think i need to consider,
if it is necessary to downgrade, 4.6 or something...
as 5.0 have deleted lots of value sms from my phone... :mad:

The Days of 128mb memory are gone. The last few devices to come out have had 256mb, and some of the newer ones are reported to have 512mb stock.
One of the reasons the iPhone can have all of those apps and not have the problem is they can take advantage of the full system memory. Why RIM will not let us use that 1GB on board memory for apps, I will never know.
Also, the Current models of the iPhone can not "MultiTask" - with the Blackberry you can run multiple apps, all of them eating into memory to run. With the iPhone, it's one app at a time.
I wish someone would figure out how to modify the addressing in the core of the OS to flash the OS to the 1GB memory and use it. I would gladly give up that 128mb chunk to run on the 1GB on board memory.
What 5.0 are you using, to where it is deleting sms?? Try the most recent leaked OS .681 - no issues what so ever! Memory is the most stable - with previous OS's I was "starting out" in the low 20MB's with memory - once the .681 was installed, I start with 33-35MB! and by the end of the day, with normal usage, I still have 20+ MB! :D

Two most often cited reasons for allowing apps to be installed only in phone application memory
are security and the assertion that most bb apps are small in size.
However I think they are just smokescreens. I don't work for RIM but I think it has more to do
with the hard-coded design of BB OS such that the OS can only start apps from the memory
space where the OS itself has bootstrapped into. It's a design limitation that cannot be
removed without complete re-engineering of the OS. Just like the case of you can only have
4 primary partitions in Windows PC.
