call it in. im pretty sure they have your info and after you clear their security questions they will deactivate service to your phone.
They can just deactivate your SIM card
haha yeah I already did that... but is there anyway to make the device basically useless (aka no internet or BB mail or such)
No unfortunately, you can get RIM to deactivate the pin. But still someone could use the phone, just not to its full potential of a blackberry.
how do u go about deactivating the pin?
i would like to know as well. I had my Bold stolen in the morning of July 4th. Although I have disconnected service and deactivated the SIM, I also want to block the pin. Any insight would be helpful.
If they use IMEI Blocking, your cell provider should do that as a matter of routine when a phone is reported stolen.
I believe some territories use IMEI blocking, but the block database is not global, so if a thief ships the phone abroad, it may well work on another continent.
It is certainly in use here in the UK.
It is also a criminal offence to change the IMEI of a phone in the UK.
A quick Google for "IMEI blocking" and "IMEI Changing offence" shows more detail.
call your provider
and provide them with your IMEI no and PIN no
and they will deactivate the BB mail, Pin etc for you
so the thief only can use it for phone call and sms
How frustrating....just called AT&T to inquire about blocking the pin and the rep sounded all confused about the pin. Actually said that the only pin would be the one you apply to the phone. When I told told the numbnuts about the pin number being unique to each individual blackberry, he said that I had to call BB about it.
I guess I'll call home and dig out the box to get the IMEI number and see what they can do for me.
