I searched and didn't find anything, but of course, I may not have tried hard enough.
Just wondering how many T-Mobile USA users on here have an unlocked Bold. How is it working for you, and have you had any problems?

Nope... I would rather have the Javelin when it comes out, since all current Bolds would not ever be able to use 3G on TMobile...
The Javelin is far better than the Bold in every aspect besides 3G and processing speed... therefore, without 3G I feel that the Bold is not nearly as good as the Jav ;)
3G is not an issue for me. I hardly ever do any web browsing, so EDGE works just fine for me.
I am curious if there are any service book issues, or if UMA even works.
This is very true... many people do not use the 3G, and that is sort of the point I am making ;) Why worry about the Bold when the Javelin is better than the Bold for users not concerned about 3G!?!
At any rate, I have heard that the Bold will be able to be unlocked and work fine on TMobile. All of the service books should work... but I assume UMA will not. This is only a guess, and I hope it is wrong... maybe someone with a Bold can clarify (or someone who knows better)
I will be using a Bold on TMO real soon. 3G gets talked about round' here like it's an absolute necessity. I have never muches cared either way. I said it before and I'll say it again, as a personal opinion, I find the Javeline Fugly and I hate the Curve like keyboard. The Bold has an excellent keypad.

Keep me posted JasonBourne on how it goes. I'm strongly thinking of getting one soon.
Running an unlocked bold on T-Mobile USA (roaming in Canada on Rogers, at the moment). eMail works fine, and so do most apps. However, I don't get the service book for "Internet Browser", so I can only use the built-in browser if I'm at a WiFi hotspot. Opera and other apps seem to be fine w/ using the cellular network connection, so I have no idea what's up w/ not having the Internet Browser issue.
I wonder if it's a service book issue, or something to do w/ t-mo not sending the right service books since I'm on a device that's unrecognized? Will try resending service books when I'm on T-Mo and not roaming on Rogers and see if that makes a difference.
Anyone have any ideas on other ways to get the service books to show up? (Re-registering / resending from BIS / etc. have been tried and don't work)
I was wondering about the browser. That was an issue when the Curve 8300 was first released and I started using an unlocked version of it on T-Mobile. It was a service book issue, and since T-Mobile didn't carry that device, there was no service book for it during the first few months unless you used a specific OS. I have no idea why that mattered, but it did.
I'm not worried about the browser issue now. I think that I can use my Unite! browser and be just fine.
Suthakamal, are you able to get UMA?
I believe there is a forum member from Texas that also has a Bold.
Kasperapd, there's no UMA on this particular build. Will have to wait for another version of the OS that has it enabled, I'd imagine.
the Unite! service gives you your own MDS/BES type browser?
Hmm... might just be worth setting up a Windows box for ...
Thanks!
Yes, Unite! let's you pick either BIS browser, or the Unite! browser. I've just been using BIS for now, but could always change if I needed to.

i also have the same problem as suthakamal. what should i do with the BB bold?
booow: I understand you having the same issues on T-Mobile - - can you verify that the UMA won't work on your Bold? I can do without the 3G capability, but I will need the UMA for sure - I think based on these posts I am going to cancel a pre-order I have in for a Rogers branded Bold. Thanks for any information you might have on the UMA issue.
I have a Rogers Bold on T-Mobile. I must say that it works amazingly well. I absolutely love it. For reference, I also have a 3G iPhone on At&t. Regarding browser issues; to be honest, the only way to have real browser usability on a small device is through a touch screen. If you think about it logically, there is no other input method that would be more effective. So the Bold is horrible a web browsing compared to the iPhone. But as a communication device, it is amazing. I am able to blast out long emails and text messages with ease.
Regarding UMA, this version of the firmware does not support UMA (the Roger's Firmware). I'm sure it's built into the hardware. So no UMA.
I had the hardest time getting Viigo to work. Just FYI.
Yeah I really can't live without the UMA due to some coverage issues at home/office - so I guess I will pass on the Bold for now and just wait to see what T-Mo comes up with after the new year.
FYI - I have been reading about the Bold UMA issue and found that Rogers has a UMA system and even the current OS on their Bold won't handle the UMA at this time - - I read somewhere that there are still some software issues on the phones that have 3G also using UMA so for the time being it's just 3G until they get the software problems resolved.
Thanks for the confirmation tho
picked up a BOLD from hong kong and currently using the t-mobile network. No 3G for Los Angeles but someone from T-mobile told me oct 5th-ish would be the roll out date? any info. I'll re-post after a few days to test everything.
Your Bold won't work on T-Mo 3G when it is rolled out - different frequency set. Bold currently 1900 - - T-Mo is 1700
I doubt that you currently have UMA capability with the Bold on T-Mobile either ??????
Yeah, on the phone with t-mobile right now and having a problem with the UMA capability.. bbmessenger and all work but can't get any other browser but the hotspot browser... whats good with that? any suggestions.. I don't have the service book for the internet browser either. Fustrating but at least some things are working
Update us with what T-Mobile told you.
How will T-Mo subscribers get any 3G services when they roam globally if other networks are on 1900 and the T-Mo Bold is set to 1700?
For someone who wants 3G when roaming globally maybe ATT is the better carrier at 1900?
I posted this question in another thread here but have no replies as of this writing (and can't include the link to the thread because I'm a noob here...)
Mike
Well the answer is, you won't. So yes, if roaming is a priority for you, AT&T would be better if you want 3G when roaming.
It will be a long time comming, but eventually there will be a 3G chipsets in devices with multiple frequency sets just like quad band for voice. There are other countries and carriers that will be on 1700 like T-Mo, but obviously they will be the exception.
Wow- back to the bad old days of freq incompatibility. I am so used to my quad BBerry working the freq stuff out on the fly when I travel.
This might give me a reason to switch to ATT after 6 years w T-Mo. Mind you with the potential for outrageous 3G roaming fees from foreign telcos maybe I'd keep 3G switched off when outside the US. I've read that some iPhone users have been whacked with huge roaming data bills when outside the US.
Yeah I bet there are some real horror stories about 3G roaming bills!
I know some business people aren't going to want to live without 3G roaming capabilities, but for the average American (like me) - if I am abroad I can live with just EDGE speed for those infrequent times that I would be out of the country.
does anyone know how to get UMA on verizon unlocked 8300...im trying to get my TMO to work on there
