Hi all, I am taking a hard look at the Bold 9900 series. My current phone is a Windows Phone 8 which I have no complaints about for the most part. It's extremely well made and runs fine. It's just that I more or less grew up on Blackberry so I'm always thinking back to when BB was king. I was really hoping that they'd get back in the game with the new BB10's. Still, I have always had a special fondness for the Bold line and the wide bodied ones in particular. I have had MANY excellent phones including the iPhone 4s although I find iPhones excessively boring even if they are well made. So, imagine my surprise when I find myself thinking of getting a 9900. It isn't even the latest and greatest for pete's sake but I think the Bold's are the best BB's ever to come out although I have no real experience with the new kids on the block (Z10 and Q10). I also say this despite the fact that I think the BB I have for work (9360) is one of the worst ones I've ever had the misfortune of using (cheap, small, cramped keyboard, lousy build quality) but I've had enough to know there are very good ones out there (9700 to mention one). So what do you all think? Does the 9900 still have some game left?

It sure it does. My ex has one. Tho, if your really looking for something along those lines, hold out for the Q10. You'll get that bb10 software (which is amazing) and still have the larger phone with the physical keyboard.

If you're about communication (excluding Skype) then the Bold 9900 remains one of the best communication devices ever developed by us naked apes. But you won't have much in the way of time-wasting distractions or built-for-12-year-olds social media apps.

You might even be able to find a like-new Bold 9900 for under $200 on your local Kijiji.

My wife just got the Q10 (white). She is insanely in love with it. I must say the build quality is really good. I thought my Z felt near perfect. The Q in the hands feels better (although I still like the Z better)

I really like the Bold, but my advise would be get the Q. Its the best of all worlds if you absolutely must have a keyboard.

No doubt. I don't know why but I am finding that I'd like to have a keyboard again. I love the swype that Android gives you but when you want to type something lengthy, there's just nothing as good as a real keyboard but only that found on the 9900 series Bold. It's roomy but also extremely responsive. I absolutely HATE the keyboard on this Curve 9360. My hands are just average but I can't stand trying to type on this thing. if it weren't a work phone, I'd chuck it in the lake. The screen (actual covering) is very prone to scratches, something I've never experienced with any other phone I've owned. I only put up with it because I have to and because I try never to use it. It is nothing more than a tool for me. Best BB I've ever owned was a 9700 however I'm pretty convinced that the 9900 would be every bit as good. AT&T is selling it for $99 on contract

Typing with the 9900 is 10/10. Build quality is 10/10. The only weak point is the battery life.

My brother-in-law has the Bold 9900 and I bought him a battery on ebay for around $9.19CAD and it was 2430mAh and it has improved his battery life significantly

I just bought a 9930 on Ebay yesterday. I've been on Android and iOS devices for the last three years but just got sick of them and I never liked typing on a touch screen (yes I can do do it just fine, but it doesn't mean I like it) and I hate landscape sliders even more. I finally gave in and ordered it. I'm saving my upgrade for the Q10 if I feel the 9930 doesn't fully satisfy my portrait qwerty needs. The nice thing is the 9930/9900's are averaging around $150 USD on ebay auctions right now and it isn't a bad option if you are willing to buy a phone that way (I have bought and sold numerous phones on Ebay with no problems.) I must say I'm really excited to get it in my hands. The thing that made me realize I should bite the bullet and order an OS7 phone was the fact that every app I use on my android and iOS devices is available for for the 9930/9900. Good luck with the decision.

The 9900 is an awesome phone, no question. I would have a hard time departing from it when my contract is up next month. I will take a look at the Q10, but you can get things done very, very quickly on the 9900. I don't know it OS10 is mature enough to say that yet. But I will definitely be looking at one when they come out. You won't go wrong with the 9900. It's the best legacy Blackberry out there.

The 9900 has tons of game I miss using mine. It won't let you down that's for sure.

I've had my 9900 for about a year and it is by far, the most durable, solid phone I've ever had. My first smartphone was a Curve 8310, which I still have. It's long since been retired, but it proves the longevity of these devices.
I've been thinking about the Q when my contract is up, but I really love my Bold. Not sure I really need the OS 10. The 7.1 is serving me fine.
I run my 9900 naked. No case, just a clear screen protector and the OEM holster. It would be a sin to put this work of art in a case. It feels too good in the hand. Besides, that's what insurance is for.
