I'm looking forward to purchase my first Blackberry when the 9900 arrives as I see that I'm in need of a reliable phone.
I'm working on my Masters in Art history at the moment.
My question (after reading endlessly about the two models), what the big difference is and will both be avaliable for everyone or is it:
9900 = Avrage Joe
9930 = Business Joe

I'm pretty sure the only difference between the two is which type of networks they can run on. The 9900 will have GSM radio will run on AT&T's network for example, while the 9930 has a CDMA radio, that can only run on Verizon/Sprint.

The only difference between models is this...
9900=GSM, IE ATT/TMO in the states
9930=CDMA, IE Verizon/Sprint
Rim tends to always designate the "00" as gsm and "30" as cdma.

Partially correct, however RIM builds the cdma phones with GSM, so you can take a 9930 from sprint or verizon and plug in a tmo or att sim and it will work.

You're right. I forgot about the ability to insert a SIM card into CDMA blackberries.
They're both the same device, the only difference is which carrier they can run on. For example if you had Vodaphone, you would get the 9900 because it is a GSM carrier and the 9900 is a GSM phone.
So what do you want the phone to do for you. If you want it so that you can type in class choose a computer. If you want it to where you can transfer documents back and forth then I would say any BB would work as long as you have the Professional Documents to Go.

Pros: 5% more battery life, run both CDMA and GSM (only EDGE in US but 3G+ in EU...)
Con: You can not surf or BBM and talk at the same time while on CDMA. Also, only 3G
