After I bought my friend a new 9900 on kijiji, he calls me yesterday saying the phone is acting all weird. Freezing, keyboard screwing up, he said it's just unusable. He said he pulls the battery constantly. He knows I'm a little techy but don't know much about the 9900. I only know about the Z10. What should I do to help him out and get his phone stabilized? Thanks

Let him check for the latest OS update... (many on the 9900 forum can advise the best build)

Back it up with BlackBerry Protect and then do a software update. Then update it with BlackBerry desktop manager.

Make sure all applications are compatible with the cell's operating system. For example if running OS v7.1.0825, make sure third party applications are compatible with v7.1. Applications designed to function on OS 10 may download and install, but are almost guaranteed to screw up OS v7.1 functionality.

The keyboard screwing up is why I left mine. You had to hit one button at a time so fast typing was out of the question. My shift key stopped working and some others. Sometimes it acted like this and sometimes it was perfect. I needed reliability so I had to let her go.

Thanks for your help. I wiped and reloaded the OS but the keyboard is still completely dead. No buttons work. I feel rather sick to my stomach. Now what

This was bought new on Kijiji ?
it's probably an old phone in new casing.

You could try replacing the keyboard , they aren't very expensive. (lot's of videos on youtube about it )
This should take care of the hardware problem.

For OS , wipe and install newest version.
Do not install any other apps.
Test it out for a while , if all is well install some apps.
Always make certain they don't cause problems with anything else.

Many times after downloading an app , problems begin because of it.

Before purchasing new keyboard , check existing.
Sometimes a wire may not be connecting properly.

    Good luck.

Ok, I'll open her up and check the keyboard connections and see what happens. Thanks
