Nope - on 2XX the first sync can crash out but 3XX onwards its pretty solid.
If you aren't on a 3XX I suggest you try upgrading, if you are wipe the handset to remove the IT Policy then restore what you want from the backup you hopefully just took before the wipe.
Then go into the BES Admin panel and delete the user and all the data attached to the user, this will leave everything in outlook intact but will remove all the stored settings of the phone, remember to setup BBM remote backup first. as when you wipe the bes user it wont restore BBM contacts.
Then setup a new identical user in the besadmin, and with your newly flashed phone re-activate over the air or wifi
This should cure 99% of problems.
Check your Address book settings and see if wireless sync is enabled, if yes, then do the following:
1) Go to the Enterprise Activation screen and in the e-mail field, Hold the ALT key down and type CNFG.
2) Turn Wireless Snyc OFF and save
3) Wait 30 seconds, then repeat step 1 and turn Wireless Sync ON
4) Wait a few minutes and the device will either go into Enterprise activation and resync, or should start re-syncing on its own.
That worked for me.
Yeah but Im guessing the crash is coming from a previously fubar'd database being carried over from an OS5/6 phone then having BES trying to push that down to an OS7 device.
The early 2XX builds had issues with that and just crashed out before anything else could sync.
Hence my nice little messy guide to wiping the whole procedure and starting over with a 3XX build :)
Thanks for the reply...
I am actually on 353, thats the first thing i did when i got the phone. I tried wiping and removing the BB device from "godaddy's hosted exchange control panel".
I had the BB 9800 before this. at first i did a switch device but some of the apps didnt work and phone was running slow. so I decided to do a clean wipe and start everything from crash. since then BES wont activate. I can receive and send emails and calendar is syncing but contacts and old emails (past 7 days) are not.
I even tried to activate BES on BB curve 8900 i have just to see if i would get the same issue and I DID. so im guessing its not a phone issue, its the BES server.
The problem is I am paying for the service (hosted exchange with BES) and dont have access to the server so I can delete the account.. Any idea what I need to exactly tell the tech guy at godaddy to do at the server to get this to work?
Thanks again for all the help.
I tried sending the service books again that didnt fix it... but for some odd reason i went into the email setup again on my 9900 and clicked on the "Internet Mail account" so it detected some settings and sent me an email saying that the BIS account is now active. after that i checked on the enterprise setup and it starting syncing everything its supposed to (over 20 services). I doubt that BIS has anything with that but not sure why it worked after doing so..........
Thanks for all the help...
good advice as this is what i have had to do recently for all my users getting new devices recently, huge pain in the ***
It's a pain but it gets the job done ! Thanks for the kudos !
lediablo - tell godaddy to wipe the user completely and all the settings from the BES server for that user - make sure to tell him NOT to delete the outlook user as well, just completely erase the bes user.
If he buggers it up however and deletes the outlook user as well then you've lost all your email and contacts and calendar, so make sure you've got a semi competent guy on the other end of the support line. Once he's completely erased the user and all settings attached to the user get him to re-create that same user again and set a new activation password.
Security wipe your handset using either the phone or something like CrackUtil which is my preferred choice.
Reload minimal stuff from the backup you might have taken for the phone, (I never go far beyond contacts tbh but its up to you).
Then begin activation, preferrably over WiFi if your BES server allows it as its a speedier process and hopefully there's less chance of stalling.
I'd HIGHLY recommend taking a long weekend and learning about BESx and Exchange and setting up your own permanent version in a cloud somewhere or on a dedicated server or VPS server.
In the UK these run from about 10-50 a month and the minute you've got more than one user on them plus you run your own website and the like, they start to make a lot of sense. BESx is free and there's some very cheap deals for Exchange Server knocking about if you hunt around (based on per user access).
If you don't feel the need to become that technically inclined and be in complete control of your BES environment, try the tips I've suggested and let us know how you get on.
DangerMouseUK thanks for all the help you are providing. Godaddy claims that they dont have access to the BES server and that it is located over at my service provider (Not sure if that is possible, I always thought that BES has to be installed on the same network as the exchange server that it is on).
I was able to go into the exchange server control panel from godaddy's website and deleted the blackberry user (deleting PIN) then waited for a little bit and added the PIN again. I am still having the same issue. It only syncs my calendar.
I tried it over wifi and over Edge, I tried wiping the phone using the blackberry security menu and used crackutils (did a wipe and removing IT policy).
Before I switched over to godaddy, I had my own exchange server at home and BESx installed on a separate machine but on the same home network. So I learned it a little bit (cant say im an expert but I can manage to get it running the way its supposed to). The reason I switched over to godaddy is cause I moved out of the country (used to live in the states and now in Lebanon) and internet here is really slow so its hard to manage it.
anyways, I think i talked alot.. so all the steps you mentioned I tried but i still cant get it to work.. I can send/receive email, calander is synced but contacts and other stuff are not syncing...
any other suggestions and is it true what godaddy said about BES server is located at my service provider?
Thanks again,
Yeah GoDaddy are talking crap, the BES server will be on the same WAN/LAN as your Exchange Server with them and it DEFINITELY won't be with your mobile network, at best there will be some sort of local cache but not the actual BES server.
With a IT Policy wipe and a fresh phone and a fresh BES user we only have two possible things left :
1) The BES user deletion/re-adding is NOT being done properly
2) Exchange / Outlook Calendar Sync Issue
2 - Raises an interesting point, because off the top of my head there are no settings on the Exchange server for an individual user that might stop the contacts syncing but I will look into it in more depth, likewise from the end user's configuration in outlook or the outlook exchange settings there's no settings off the top of my head but I will look into it. And definitely as things are setup it should just "work" unless something was changed or go-daddy setup up something differently.
Have they got a knowledgebase for this sort of thing to see if anyone else has had a similar problem with their specific setup ?
yes thats exactly what i thought.. Godaddy is talking crap. anyways, for some odd reason it my 9900 decided to resume the activation process on its on without me doing anything, and it did all the way 100% till i said phone activated. Not sure why all of this happens but oh well my issue is resolved.
Thanks for all the help you provided. I really appreciate it.
