So i have been reading plenty of rumors on the new 9700 processor, some said it would be in the 800 mhz zone. Others said that the 9700 will have an 800mhz processor underclocked to 624? I cannot tell from the official specs which one is true. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's the same processor as the 9000 so don't expect to see some amazing difference

Same processor, less onboard memory, same scrren. This seems to be less of an upgrade by the minute..

Same processor. But the 9700 is a little quicker due to more application memory.

Crucial, More or less? The literature I was given today on the launch event in miami by RIM says it has 256MB Ram for applications, OS ??? Doesn't the 9000 have 1Gb ?

256MB of app memory. But the OS takes up some of that app memory.

It's pretty much the Tour but with wifi a trackpad and a processor

this is gonna be nice for those who want a new qwerty berry (especially for tmo) but I'm not gonna waste my money on this

The 9000 has 128mb of app memory, and 1 gig of onboard storage memory for pictures, music, ringtones, etc. You got it wrong.

curious as to why they didn't invest in a more powerful processor that was just clocked at a lower speed, thus saving battery life...obvious answer would be cost savings i guess. kind of dissapointing that this phone won't be all that much faster than a 9000.

Crap, really, same processor?! Argh! Can't RIM get one of these launches right. C'mon - this is their flagship product! Not sure if I want to be first in line anymore.

It's a shame really it isn't going to be a bad phone but this doesn't deserve to carry on the Bold name. While 624 MHz is plenty fast but trying to command the same price point of 299 for last year tech is really what bothers me (yeah MIR but it's still 299 out the door)

I didn't know the 8900 had a trackpad and 3G. That right there is a big enough difference for a lot of people.

Where are you getting your information?

So the 9700 will not be an upgrade from your Curve?

It's still $100 cheaper than the 9000 when it launched. And it's technically better than the older Gen device. Not bad. And the 9700 will not be plagued with the same issues at launch that the 9000 had.

I have been using the trackpad for over a week now and it is simply amazing how well it works compared to the ball. It is smooth and dependable and adjustable to your own tastes.

I can remember when I was using the track wheel! I thought that was great and had my doubts about the ball but the pad is the single greatest improvement I have seen

Same processor, more on board memory (256 vs 128, That extra GB had wasn't app memory), better screen (the one from the 8900 and tour) and better camera. Definite Upgrade! Plus its not a big brick.

Their info is completely wrong. The only thing they got right was the processor.

I'll probably get one for my wife to upgrade her from her 8310 Curve and she wanted the 8900. So, she should be happy with the waiting and the upgrade. I'll wait awhile and see what's around the corner with the new devices coming out. Not knocking the 9700 at all. I think it will be an awesome device for a lot of addicts. But, I'm not feeling the same excitement as when the BOLD dropped or the year before that when my 8310 dropped.

Yeah it's cheaper EVENTUALY but you need to have 299 to walk out the door with one.

Seriously the latest 5.0 compiled for the 9000 I bet falls close to within 5% of the 9700 unless you have a ton of apps on the phones

Dude, 9700 has double the RAM. That makes a huge difference in speed. Anybody that has seen the diff between the iPhone 3gs and iPhone 3g can tell you that. Sweet.

What? You are aware that the 3G had a 400 MHz processor and it jumped to 600mhz correct? Is the 9700 going to be faster? I would hope so but it's performance isn't going to blow the 9000 out the water and you won't see the performance jump from the 3G to 3GS.

Really I mean now the Storm I hear is the fastest it's ever been on the latest 5.0 and it's so close to the videos of the new Storm that I'm willing to wager the same thing happens when we get a better 5.0 Bold build
