Is there a significant difference besides memory between the two? I'll miss the trackball for sure - but is the 9650 better? Any thoughts?

Yes! Faster processor in the 9650 and more memory. However, your comparing a GSM phone (T-MO/ATT) to a technically CDMA2000 Phone (Sprint/Verizon).

Ewww..didn't know that the 9650 was CDMA. Dangit...are there any GSM upgrades for the Bold coming out soon? (besides the 9700)

the tour 9630 (Sprint/vzw) got upgraded to bold 9650... If thats not convincing XX30 is CDMA (gen 1) and XX50 is also CDMA (gen 2) their numbering scheme has always worked out this way. Also, one can deduce that it will be on verizon and sprint because they are both CDMA carriers rather then GSM.

Looks like the 9650 only has a 528mHz while the 9000 has the 624mHz. Atleast that's what i have found so far.

yes, you can get all the 9700 power in a new GSM Pearl case!

I have no clue on the processor, but the new 3G GSM Pearl is sure nice... but i would never buy it.

EVERYBODY is waiting on GSM upgrade from the 9000....

Going to be a while and I will wait since my 9000 withstands the test of time.

But I won't wait forever? I could see myself getting through summer and fall, it's been more than a year now with it and I have tried several other devices.

Isn't the 9700 considered an "upgrade" to the 9000?

Yup. Twice as much memory (256 MB v. 128MB), among other things. The 9650 has twice as much memory (512 MB) as the 9700 for that matter, although they seem to be pretty much the same otherwise.

The real question is, what is the GSM upgrade from the 9700 going to be? Probably the 9800 slider and/or the Dakota. You know they will have four times as much memory as the 9000 and will be able to rock (or perhaps will be rocking) OS 6.0 and the WebKit browser.

the Bold 9650 have 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 GSM bands and Dual-band 800/1900 CDMA2000 1X Ev-DO networks accordingly to the specs in the RIM website in this link:

    h**p://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/compare/product-attr-compare.jsp?products=2046&products=2027&products=2 066

but looks like 3G wont work in American GSM Carriers. Am i correct?

The 9000 is a good phone. The 9650 isn't out yet so it's nonexistent at this point.

The 9700 is still a fantastic phone. Perhaps not quite the build quality of the 9000. (Maybe that's just my limited experience with the 9700 verse my 1 very solid 9000) I mean, if the 9700 was the size of the 9000 and the same build quality, it would be a hot phone for sure!

I am so over that trackball...

I agree though, i do not see the 9700 as an "upgrade" to the 9000. Just a yearly new model, imo.

Agreed. I own both the 9000 and the 9700, yes the 9700 is a bit snappier, but in all honesty I'd pick my 9000 over the 9700 ANY day. 9000 is a frickin BEAST.

I third this, come on RIM, bring on the new "real" bold. 9000 form factor, 512mb, 3.6mm camera, and track pad.....they'll get my money if they go this way....there is no upgrade for the 9000 until this is done....

not an appropriate comparison. the 9000 is overall better then the 9650. why compare a cdma device with a gsm one anyway?

Bold 9650 is basically the Tour with WiFi, and a trackpad and a bump in memory to 512 mb. It does not have the better processor(only the 524 mhz found on the curve 8900 and Tour) and still uses the weaker 1350 mAh battery and not the 1550 mAh that the bold and 9700 use.

If you want a new super phone, get the Pearl 3G. It's the first blackberry to have Wireless-N in WiFi and uses the the same upgraded Bold processor found on the Bold 9700.
