My 9650 has hit hard times! When it is not plugged in I can see texts coming in but none of the buttons work. When plugged in its even worse, these screensaver goes on. I would like to try to wipe the device clean and reinstall the OS. Is there a way to do this without the buttons or touchscreen working? My main phone is a Q10 for which I use BB Link so not sure if I can do my 9650 on the computer. Any advice?

You can do the 9650 on the computer. First, sign out of Link and close it. Then open BlackBerry Desktop Software, plug in the 9650, do a backup if you can, and start with a security wipe. I'd try that first. Maybe putting it back to factory will solve the problem. I'm wondering if you have a bad battery, not enough juice to perform all actions.

Yes! Battery is swollen. That could be the source of the problem? Why then wouldn't it work when plugged in?

I would bet it's the problem. I mean, a security wipe is always good anyway to refresh things by putting it back to factory, but I would guess the battery is the problem: 75% chance with what you've said about its physical condition.

Its not the battery. I bought a new one and still same problem. I tried to hook up to the computer with BB desktop software but its not reading the device. Strange, device is communicating. Receiving emails and texts, alarm goes off etc. Just the buttons don't work! Any other idea's?
