- Hey guys, just recently got the new blackberry 9700 and its been a whirlwind of trouble. Lets get started:
-Side railing is creaking a little bit
-the L key is creaking when pressed down and it seems to stick a tad
-My Push email never works correctly and it doesnt pick up new emails.
-When watching a trailer on youtube, the top black box is displayed, i can see a pixel out of place with white around it. (Not sure if i should return it based on the pixel issue)
-Had some java issues at the start and it crashed my clock i wasnt able to get into it
-SMS bug causing problems
-Voice dialing via button on the side of the blackberry would turn my screen white and reboot my phone
I called and explained this to Rogers and they finally decided to send me another phone, but what they told me about the pixels shocked me..
I need to have 5 or more pixel problems before they will return the phone based on that...
now to be honest i dont know how many i had since i dont know what a single pixel size is, but there is something going on with the screen.
Any comments? What do you guys think of the situation..03-25-10 03:31 PMLike 0 -
- I think even one small pixel going wrong when the phone is 10 days old is a little too much.. what will happen when its one month old lol... haha could be the luck of the draw... would you return it based on pixels or one pixel?

- I'm with Rogers too, and I had a rollercoaster ride with them when I sent 3 9700's back due to problems such as yours.
Here is my suggestion:
If you picked up your device in-store, go back and explain to them that you are not happy with it as there are several software related glitches that "your friends" do not have. Plus you can mention that the squeeking of your bezel (side rail as you put it) annoys you as you use the phone. Be respectful but show your dissappointment.
If you called-in for the device through customer service, call them back and explain to them the issues that you are having and explain that you are extremely dissatisfied with the device as you paid a lot of money and would like to have your phone replaced with a new one. Again, be nice. They might transfer you to Tech Support, so explain to them again all the issues and say that you have compared your device to your "friends" and none of their phones have the same problem. They should be nice enough to replace it for you, but if they don't agree, then just ask to speak to a supervisor to express your dissatisfaction.
A brand new device should be free of these problems, both hardware and software.
Don't be afraid to over-exaggerate the issues you have. Lie as much as you want. Talk about your "friends" just to prove that you have looked into the issue and have solid grounds to request a new device.
Remember, if one agent says no, then there are 50,000 others that might say yes. Just keep calling back if you're really unhappy. Eventually you'll get someone who will accommodate your needs.
Again, if you bought yours in-store, just go back and start over-exaggerating the software issues as they are less likely to actually sit there trying to figure out what's wrong.
Hope that helps.03-25-10 03:53 PMLike 0 - I'm with Rogers too, and I had a rollercoaster ride with them when I sent 3 9700's back due to problems such as yours.

WOW was i ever mad..but i kept my cool, i told them i would check with the rogers store and hung up... called back today and got a good operator, we worked things out and im getting a new one sent, im just worried that ill have the same problems or maybe a tad different ones since your already on your 3rd one. The guy at the rogers store told me they couldn't or would not charge me fully price..just a scare tactic.
i got my phone in the mail on the 14 of this month, they told me with the new phone replacement they would not reset the "brand new phone replacement 30 day warranty" so i have to do a good once over or maybe even twice over because its from the original date. They are just trying to get out of replacing my phone forever.... after 30 days he said i get a refurbished phone...........03-25-10 04:03 PMLike 0 - To be honest, i'm on my 5th Bold right now.
I originally placed my order over the phone in November through Customer Relations. They sent it to me in the mail. I noticed a few defects in build quality so I called and informed them about the issues and they sent me a replacement. The next one had a squeeky bezel that annoyed the **** out of me so they sent me another one. The third one they sent me, the trackpad wobbled like a mothrfckr, so I called and told them i'm sending it back.
I ended up calling back customer relations expressing how upset I was that they keep sending me defective units, so I requested them to cancel my upgrade. I asked them if I can just go into a Rogers Plus store and do my hardware upgrade in the store so I can actually open the box to check out the build quality of the device before I take it home. They said okay and I went through with it. I went to like 3 different Rogers Plus stores in the area and all had ridiculously slanted trackpads. Some placed didn't let me look in the box. Finally I called a Rogers Plus store and asked if they had any 9700's in-stock and they said they had 2 and that they would be okay with me checking out the device before taking it.
I checked it out and it was beautiful, so I took one home. A few days later I noticed that the bezel began to creek really bad right where I hold it to my ear. I took it back and after they looked it over, they replaced it with a new one. I was careful checking my current one in-store. I looked everything over thoroughly and I was happy with the build, so they swapped it for me right then and there.
I realize now, though, that I was being too picky, as there will always be something wrong if you look for things to be wrong with a phone like a BlackBerry that has fairly intricate details and build design. Also, the Bold 9700 is the first of it's new class of designs so naturally there will be some minor flaws.
Your complaints are reasonable though, but I would suggest that you should keep replacing your units until you are happy with one.
I am just crazy and a little OCD, I admit03-25-10 04:24 PMLike 0 - Just to add,
I still wasn't perfectly happy with my current Bold as the trackpad started to act up on me after a few days, but I didn't have the energy to go through another replacement.
I literally re-built the phone myself by taking it apart and re-building it tightly.
Most people wouldn't dare do this, but I thought, what the ****, if "build quality" is the big issue, then i'll just build the mthrfckr myself to my liking.
I'm insane for caring so much. I should have just kept my first original bold as the issue was so minor considering everything else i've seen.03-25-10 04:28 PMLike 0 - I do not blame them for not letting you look at all of their phones. I would not want a "fingered" phone, you would not either.03-25-10 05:01 PMLike 0

When you called back for the side railing being creaky and all that fun jaz, what did you use as an excuse to get them to exchange it based on that? i tried getting them to exchange it and they told me the was merely cosmetic and i cannot exchange based on those terms.03-25-10 06:01 PMLike 0 - The keypad "L" button creaking and sticking is definitely something that would bother the **** outta me, as its something you'd use almost everytime you use the phone.
The bezel, well..to be honest, mine clicks beside the green and red buttons, but I'm learning to live with it. After all, its just plastic.
The only problem with getting another phone is that you might end up with even MORE cosmetic problems, THAT would suck
Hope it all works out for you03-25-10 10:15 PMLike 0 - Now that you have re-engineered the wheel, how does it work now?

As far as re-building goes. I was able to get rid of the trackpad wobble and raised it to fit tightly in place. Basically, RIM misjudged the height of the base underneath the trackpad, which created a sunken-in trackpad. The trackpad is supposed to be completely flush with the BB menu and Back buttons next to it. It really shouldnt be sunken in, leaning up down left or right. By placing some double sided tape under the trackpad, it is now flush and feels nice and tight, as it should be. There is a slight rattle sound still when I put my phone down on a hard surface - this is probably from the auto-focus lens. If you tap on the "Bold" logo between your camera lens and flash, you might notice it too, but this is something that's more common than not, so no need to try to fix that.
I am just learning to chill out and live with the phone I have. It's not a life sentence, just another 2 years before i'm on to my next one.
But seriously, just try your best getting one you are happy with. My honest opinion, is that when it comes to your trackpad and keypad (and LCD screen of course), those are most important as you actually USE those components regularly. Little things like small creaks on the bezel, tiny light bleeds between screen and bezel, above the BB menu key and back key, those are all just aesthetic and should not be enough to get a replacement.
If you have a solid trackpad, a good solid keyboard, a screen that has no dead pixels, and the software is fine, it's a KEEPER!03-25-10 11:17 PMLike 0 - the metal bars that underline the keyboard is starting to break off and stabbing me in the fingers.. Rogers will not replace my device saying this is cosmetic.. what can I do to make them replace it??03-26-10 09:41 AMLike 0

- make them replace it if you've got that many problems. Shouldn't even be a huge problem for them. Complain
lol
03-26-10 02:50 PMLike 0 - Wow have had none of yalls problems...still on first 9700 after a few months, crossing my fingers
