Is anyone using the wifi hotspot feature in 7.1? Did you have to subscribe? What are the fees? Is there a workaround?

No charges whatsoever on windmobile without tethering enabled.

I haven't used it since but it was worth while. I'm now on 7.0.0.583. Waiting for a better less ghostly release of 7.1 right now. The sim toolkit is a necessity for me.

Works great on T-Mobile USA. Free as can be (I know other carriers charge though).

I do struggle mightily with phone calls with UMA/WiFi calling, though it could be a router issue. Hoping for a better leak (or that official "November" release) soon.

Verizon requires an additional plan (tethering/mobile broadband plan) to use the WiFi Hotspot feature. Once you have that, it works fine.

I used to tether all the time, never had to pay extra on Verizon. All the while others were talking about how Verizon was charging them. I guess bridge will do until I break down, or become broken down, and start the extra plan. I have unlimited data on my phone, it seems silly for me to have to pay extra for 1 gig limit. Is there a time commitment? Or can I pay as I go?

Works great on Rogers and TELUS in Canada. No fees attached to either, and at least with Rogers, no plans to either.

And I have the opposite problem. The Hotspot connects but when I try to open a webpage on my PlayBook nothing happens. Any my WiFi/UMA is better on my 9900 with OS7.1.0.74 then it was on my 9700 with OS6.

No commitment, you can add it or cancel it anytime on the Verizon website. It's 20$/month for 2GB.

Work well on 9900 with the leaked OS 7.1 too... My Telus BIS plan includes free tethering so no worries there. I even sometimes find it faster than my wifi connection. Depend on the time of the day I get good speeds and bad speeds.

thats because the 9900 is H+ and the 9700 is 3G .. big difference in connection speed . the modem for the 97xx is a HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps where the 99xx series has HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps .. big big difference in connect speeds

The pertinent point being that you have unlimited data on your PHONE. Nowhere were you promised unlimited data to use on other devices.

If you get a tethering plan it's typically a 1 GB or 2 GB limit per month.

Wrong! Mobile Hotspot is an app adding functionality to the phone, just like You Tube or Pandora or Telenav. What difference can it possibly make to Verizon if Im using unlimited data to watch videos or stream music, OR browse the internet. It shouldnt matter. They have taken on a "bank fees" attitude, I hope it bites them in the end.

    Sorry. But you are wrong.

Mobile Hotspot is a functionality (provided by the device manufacturer not by the carrier) that allows the device to share its data access to other devices.

NOWHERE are you guaranteed in your Verizon agreement that you should be able share the data allowance with other devices for free.

You might think that it "shouldnt matter" but clearly to the carrier it does. And they are the ones who make the rules.

We may or may not like it, but that's how it is.

Has 7.1 been released for ATT, I'm not positive as to exactly which 7.0 is currently installed on my 9900, but the mobile hotspot is not mentioned at all in my settings,my account allows for the tethering so that is not the problem.
