I beg to differ on the comment about the usefulness of a small touch screen. Sure, and you're definately not going to read any ebooks on it, but it's not supposed to be an iphone. I used to have a SE P1i, and being able to use the touchscreen made it superbly functional.
You'd be surprised how many people assume that adding a touchscreen means you lose the trackpad...

In my opinion we'd have to have both...in which case the touchscreen would simply be an addition to what we already have...and could only add functionality and input options.

well some of the earlier prototypes shown had no trackpad... which i think is a mistake... as you point out, having both would be the only way i'd get one...

The leaked photos of the 9800 slider show it has a trackpad at the bottom of its touchscreen (i.e., not on the bottom keyboard part that slides out), so I would think that would indicate a trackpad will be on the Dakota. I mean, if they put one on the more touchscreen-centric 9800, they'd surely put one on the Dakota.

I agree, the trackpad is a must.

The beautiful Clamshell should be out by the end of summer. As far as an exact release date, we don't have one yet since not even Verizon or RIM have it set in stone.

For some weird reason I want one of those.
    Me too ! :-)

bold 9000 size, 9650 specs(instead of 512 boost it to a 1 gig), 6.0 and webkit, 9700/8900 keyboard and a true touch screen, that phone would be a killer, IMO

Although I'm naturally partial to the 9000, I ultimately don't care whether it's 9000- or 9700-sized. I just want the freakin' thing to be released. Now. Do you hear me, Lazaridis? I expect a package on my desk before I leave today.

if they bring the keyboard lower on the 9700 and stretch the screen higher up. it would be the perfect for factor for a hybrid. as long as they dont tack on surepress .....

I can't believe there hasn't been any inside info on this lately. Even just something like, yeah, RIM is working on it. I am going to have to call vaporphone soon!

i think the Bold 9000 Size would be great. since someof us have big hands, trackpad would be good on it too.. since im a storm owner and i still have trouble tapping the small links on websites. with the pad its easy and nice to use. i used the 9700, it just felt small. P.S the touchscreen would be a nice side feature, no issue in having it.

as i understand it this device is not scheduled until about august. rumours say there will be a front facing cam possibly.

yup. it needs a trackpad. if it doesnt they have already failed.

rim puts 5mp cam, front facing cam, trackpad and 9000 size but thinner and they will have themself a winner. i find more and more people dropping bb going to the iphone just due to the fact they are getting bored of it and annoyed of bbm. i have 2 lines and a 9700 and a 32gb 3gs. i cant wait for the next iphone. no bb interest me except for this one.

If they would lower the keyboard down a little, they could lose that dead space just below the space bar, it would make more room for a bigger "touch" screen. I think the phone would be perfect. Would really get me thinking about leaving my current perfect phone, nexus one.

if they lowered the keyboard, i think it would be harder to type on and the phone would not feel balanced since we would be gripping the bottom. but iono. you can only tell about these things when you hold it in your hand.

Lower the keyboard and you get a mid 90s laptop where the keyboard was in the front and guaranteed carpal tunnel.
