    I think RIM/the carriers are absolutely out of their minds to be charging $200-300 for this phone on a 2 year contract. I was originally going to go with an iPhone 5 but after playing with this phone I think I'll stick with a BB once more cause it really is a cool productive little phone. But that price is absolutely insane and I won't be paying that no matter what, especially since the iPhone 5 will be priced the same way. So realistically, when do you think we'll see a significant price drop?

    I got two 9930's at a Verizon store for $199 each yesterday. The guy just said he was giving me that price while we were signing up the service! I was stoked!

    The retail price won't drop for a while but I'm sure Verizon will run a Holiday sale.

    Damn really? Holidays are the soonest we'd see a price drop? I was hoping it would be a few weeks.

    Corporate stores are selling for $199 on upgrade or new customers! Authorized dealers only have 2 or 3 but the corporate stores have 50 or so.

    Competition is coming from Android.
    Samsung Galaxy M Pro
    Samsung debuts new Galaxy lineup, refines naming strategy along the way - Engadget

    Samsung Galaxy M Pro packs Qwerty, takes no nonsense | Crave | CNET UK

    Ok, it is not as fast because this the Samsung has 1ghz vs BB's 1.2ghz

    Ok, the BB9900 definitely looks better.

    Camera right now is equal, we are still not sure if the Samsung will have autofocus.

    Ok, the BB9900 has better resolution but not by a lot.

    Ok, the Samsung has a smaller screen at 2.6 while the BB9900 has a 2.8.

    The OS is a toss up since OS7 is the last of it's kind, and the samsung has android 2.3 gingerbread.
    But gingerbread will probably have none or if there is much less bugs than what BB9900 people are experiencing since Google takes their OS seriously.

    The BB9900 will probably have a better feeling keyboard.

    The build quality, from what I've been reading about 9900 quite a number of units have build quality issues. The samsung we don't know yet but I'm guessing they have better manufacturing capabilities and better quality control.

    Here is where it makes a difference.

    The Galaxy M Pro is probably 1/2-1/3 the price of the BB9900 if it will be based on current samsung pricing.

    It is just right above their lowest class of galaxies.

    Samsung puts its new naming convention to good use, let's check out the new models and see if it works

    Pricing in US$ for out of contract samsungs might go something like
    S = $600 range
    R= $500 range
    W= $400 range
    M= $300 range
    Y= $200 range

    This samsung phone is similarly to HTC Chacha which has a lower clock speed of 800mhz but the HTC Chachas go for about around $300 off contract brand new with taxes duties and all in the country where I live.

    The Galaxy M Pro will be priced similar if not the same.

    If RIM does not lower their prices soon....when this Samsung phone gets announced in September, I think would just hold off their BB9900 purchase to get a more reasonably priced phone.

    Price will drop when new smartphone release..
    FYI: here in indonesia, no contract offering from carrier, we must pay full price of the handset..
    For example, If I want Bold 9900, I must pay +- US$ 705 (official price from RIM autorizhed dealer. Release late september here)
    If I want to get it fast, I can choose from unofficial seller, price is around +-US$ 1,000-1,060 (seller imported 9900 from outside. Ex. Rogers, telus, etc. They unlocked the handset & sell it here)
    Too expensive for the 9900..--'
    But 9900 is hot selling & most wanted blackberrys in indonesia..ha3..

    Yes, even $1 over the price this phone should be at is too much. Not a matter of money, it's a matter of principle. Releasing a phone that should have been released last year for $250 on a 2 year contract? Why? It's a slightly revamped Bold with the same OS, nothing revolutionary here at all. A few ridiculous phones are about to come out in the $200-300 range and the 9930 is seriously trying to compete with them?

    This phone should be $150 or less on a 2 year contract.

    i dont think this would drop. the 9900/9930 is over-priced everywhere in the world. i think RIm is taking advantage of all of us because we have all gotten addicted.

    I agree. This phone is way over priced. As much as I would like to have it I'm just not going to fork over that kind of cash for a phone with year old specs and doesn't even have auto focus or a front facing camera. Not to mention the lack of lte.

    Don't actually -have- too. Just go to different stores and keep saying that till one of the salesman caves. VW employees(or actually, their managers), need to sell a certain amount of phones to keep their pay/not get fired/etc. They'll do it to keep you there. Just don't say 'I'll cancel my phone service otherwise'. Just say you want a better price, and if they disagree say you'll call in to close the service once yours is set up or something:P
