Don't get me wrong, phone is amazing and way better than my old 9700, but damn I have to charge this thing once or twice a day. I am doing the exact same stuff with my 9700 and this is killing me. I have set the brightness to the lowest level and stuff and its still crappy battery life...
Yes, 99XX has very poor battery life due to RIM's new JM-1 battery which is thin and less powered...
Try searching this forum for extended battery, lot of people been already using it..
It might suite your needs.
JM-1 batteries have less power in them. In addition 99xx has faster processor, bigger and better screen. Thats never a good combo for battery life.
You can carry a spare battery with you, they are unbelievably thin!
Or you can buy an extended battery.
Apart from these I find wifi to be saving amazing battery life.
Yes coming from the torch 9800 which use to get me thru the day without ever having to charge it till end of the night.. When I got the bold I can say it would last me 10-12 hours max or sometimes less depending how I use the phone.. But then lucky me when I bought the phone off my friend it came with 2 battery which is good just kinda hate carrying a spare battery around with me "just incase"
If you say so, buddy. I've had my phone working since 7:30am, and I just go back from using my GPS for 20mins straight in downtown traffic driving to a client, and i'm still sitting at 45%. Before I used the GPS I was at 70%. After the gps, 60%. Then I went deep into a building where service was in and out, so I assume that dusted a good chunk off. But I'm still sitting at 45% battery after continual usage all day long and a 20minute GPS session.
Compared to my iphone4 and my galaxy nexus, this battery life is great. I noticed my battery life improved after draining my battery down to red bar and charging it back up to 100%. Someone recommended it on another battery life thread.
I was probably the one who suggested nearly killing the battery, although other guys on here will claim the li-ion batts like to stay between 20 & 80 percent charge and they DON'T like being totally drained.
I've always nearly-drained my li-ion powered bberries then charge them fully and have always had great batt life tho, which is why I recommend doing that.
Btw I'm sitting in night class now waiting for it to begin, and I'm still sitting at 40% battery remaining. I'll be on internet and txtn the rest of the night til I leave at nine, and will report in my results.

i had battery problems similar to yours. tried a few different software builds... but when i downgraded to 7.0.0.503.... WOW!!!!!! Give it a try. no bs... more than doubled my battery life.
I did a 12 hour road trip using bb maps, internet, email and phone calls from another state and returned home with 25% leftover. If that's bad I want more!

While I cant comment on whether this may be OS related - batteries these days arent susceptible to developing "memories" as they once used to.
7.1 has this already built in, no reason for a third party app.
7.1 does not have MeterBerry built in. It has a battery monitoring function. The question was directed at the OP in regards to what was being shown in the screenshots, which is MeterBerry.
