I'm really sorry for the dumb question but what does CDMA and/or Monaka means?
CDMA is code multiple division access totally different from GSM
Thats why montana is CDMA while Dakota is GSM
Since Verizon is CDMA Dakota would not work only montana
Same Montana would not work on At & T GSM network for example
basically, it's a type of connection technology that one carrier uses over another. and the two are not compatible with each other
It isn't a dumb question anyway, given that you are not in north america it is quite easy for you to have not come across this wireless standard since it isn't that common anywhere else.
CDMA = CANADA DOESN'T MATTER to AMERICANS. It's true. It doesn't.

What Carriers use the GSM and what use CDMA?
Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.
Most other companies use GSM. Especially if you are in a country other than the US.

No. That's just the carriers.

They are both GSM.

Because it's CDMA and can only be used on CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint right?

9650 can be used on gsm network since its a dual band gsm and cdma. once unlocked can be used tmo and att. also international gsm carrier. keep in mind you will only be able to run full 3G on its cdma verizon/sprint carrier.
There are actually about 35 countries internationally that use CDMA as well. Here's a good chart of countries and technologies available.
