Bricking = something catastrophic happening to your phone rendering it as useful as a brick (hence "Bricking"). Only option here is to get a new phone.
Nuking = something happening to the OS on your phone (caused by a bad OS install/issue during install, an app or OS issue). This can be rectified by re-loading the OS onto the phone.
Nuking - what just happened to my 9780 as I was upgrading an app yesterday.
Frustration - what one goes thru to restore all settings and apps etc after recoving a "nuked" berry. Can be time consuming  (Especially when one hasn't backed up for almost 2 months due to laziness.) DOH!
