I am buying a 9900 from Vodafone UK and wanted to know the 3g bands that is written in the about screen. What is Vodafone UK's 3G bands? (1,2,5,6) or (1,3,4)?

That's a change from Voda

They've always used bands 1, 2, 5 & 6 in the past. Bands 1, 4 & 8 are usually only used on T-Mobile USA and other AWS carrier devices.

In Vodafone UK page it says that it supports these networks (GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 Dualband/Triband/Quadband. UMTS HSDPA 850/1900/2100). As far as I know these are 1,2,5,6. I mean these are identical to Rogers 9900 and early At&t Blackberry's. Aren't they?

Yep. I just had my guys in the UK send me a 9900 from Vodafone. It will only do EDGE on AT&T, not 3G or H+. It is definitely 1,4,8 and not 1,2,5,6. Guess it looks like I need to get one from Rogers.

Why is AT&T taking so long? Ugh...

I believe Voda are future-proofing their 9900's by including Band 8 (900Mhz) which has been opened up by OFCOM for additional 3G bandwidth in the UK.

Yeah, you'll be fine. I just said that 2100Mhz is Band 1, so you will get 3G in your country.

Was worried for a moment if these bands won't work in India, as I'm planning to relocate in few months. But they use 2100 Mhz for 3G as well.

The phone will work, just that it won't be able to utilise 3G on some networks. Instead it will use EDGE.
For ex, 3G won't work on AT&T, but will do on T-mobile.

They want to, but ofcom have said they can't.... Yet.

Wideband 900 can possibly interfere with GSM-R and as Vodas allocated frequency is close to GSM-R it's a non starter for now.

On the other hand, O2 are rolling out 900 umts, in abundance as their allocated frequency is slightly further away from GSM-R.

Voda and 4g? Sort of. They are doing a refresh of their whole network and the kit that's going in, is, I believe capable of 4g but probably won't be activated until they have licences and sufficient sites to make it noticeable.

If you want a 9900 to work with 3G buy a Rogers branded Blackberry bold 9900 and unlock it..
the Vodafone 9900 will work on 2G (EGDE) only if unlocked for T-mobile / At&t...

not to hijack this thread, but I bought a 9900 sim free in the UK from amazon and have not been able to get 3G on my tmobile UK service plan...

I have the the OS7 .296 with 1,4,8 3G.

Will a different OS have a suitable 3G for tmobile UK? I am trying to find a solution to get 3G on my phone...

My friend has a Vodafone 9900 which shows "3G bands 1,4,8" on the about screen. I am assuming that since it doesn't say 4G, it won't do 4G on TMO in the US even though my TMO US 9900 says "3G/4G Bands 1,4,8". Is that correct?
