    Hi all

I've spent a few hours now trying to figure out how I can upgrade my Bold 9900 to OS 7.1 but was unsuccessful

    I've tried almost everything:

    1) Deleting Vendor.xml file from the Apploader folder

    2) Uninstalling on PC and the Apploader re installing

    3) Deleting all content from AppLoader folder and re-installing the OS 7.1 and then going back and checking

    But still is giving me:

"The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wirless service provider or system administrator."

    Any recommendations?

    any solutions are welcomed

How many vendor.xml files have you deleted? There are two, one a little harder to find than the one you've already deleted. Try using this program, vendor xml remover, and run the update again. Good luck.

What OS are you trying to install? Last knew there weren't any carrier released 7.1 OSs for 9900.

Yep. If you are trying to install the 9930 OS onto a 9900, it will never work.

Yes this was the only way mine would work even after manually deleting the vendor file.

But yes if you're using a 9900, it will not work.

Thank you for all the replies you guys are great!

Yes I have been trying to install 9930 OS 7.1 on a 9900 but naturally as you mentioned it will never work.

I have found the following off OS 7.1 another forum:

    9900jAsia_PBr7.1.0_rel196_PL5.1.0.75_A7.1.0.74

Tried installing it but still didn't work but are starting to have doubts about it because of the "jAsia" meaning it might be in Japanese then I am really in trouble!!

Are their any carriers providing OS 7.1 for the 9900 or will I have to wait?

    Thanks!!!

again, there are 2 vendor.xml files, make sure you delete them both.

reload os through the loader file and not dm.

Yes, ALL the vendor.xml files must be deleted before reinstalling.

I have had this buid installed on my 9900.
    9900jAsia_PBr7.1.0_rel196_PL5.1.0.75_A7.1.0.74.
In my experience, every BB OS release, official or not, has English as primary language. The Asia in the title means that it includes a bunch of Asian languages at the expense of some European ones.
It worked well for me and includes Mobile Hotspot. You don't need any special software to remove the vendor.xml file. Just do a search in the drive (usually C:/) where your RIM installation resides. Make sure to include system, indexed and hidden files in search options. It should find 2 vendor.xml files. Just delete them both righ there within search results and you will be ready to go.
    Hope this helps.

Regarding the two vendor.xml files, on Windows 7 they are located here:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    • C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

Make sure to replace {USERNAME} with your Windows username. Additionally, the second folder I referenced is in a hidden folder. You will need to type the path to "C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData" before you can see the rest of the folders.

On Windows Vista, the second XML file is not found under the same folder path, but it is very similar. On Windows XP, I have no idea where the second one might be hiding.

You can also do this to find the vendor.xml files and go to the locations and delete them.

do a start, run, cmd, OK, cd\ [enter] dir vendor.xml /s /p [enter] let it run, take note of where it finds them and go delete them from those locations and try again.

    Hi all

I've managed to install OS 7.1 on the 9900

I didn't have any glitches yet and are at the restoring stage.

Will comprehensively test it in the comming days and see how it manages and will write a review.

Thank you all for your support!!!

Just want to extend my thanks, I found both files by simply doing an advanced search,(also exposing the "Hidden" files). Found both.. And now, back up and Upload.. This 9900 is a great phone, but has been on the Fritz here and there... I have a good feeling bout this particular OS.. Wish me luck.
