    I have a tmobile 9900 running 1315

Alot of people on this forum are talking about upgrading to 216 for better battery life. My question is will that have an effect on features I am waiting for in future carrier updates that include hotspot and uma?

Yep, that's the beauty of Blackberries you can upgrade to any OS you want (leak or official from any carrier) as long as the model number of the phone (9900 or 9930 in our cases) is the same and in most cases if you do an upgrade not a wipe and install your old apps (even the carrier ones) will still be there and work. Also you can always downgrade or wipe and reinstall the official OS for your carrier (no need to jailbreak/root).

As for UMA watch the leaked software forums eventually someone will figure out what exact .cod files you will need to keep from an existing TMo OS build for UMA to work.

The exception to what i said above is when something like BB 7.1 comes out, your carrier specific apps may be broken until the carrier releases their own build of 7.1.
