i had a look and the uma menu option is not even present to add the settings. From what i have read previously it will support wifi calling via a software update but it wont be full uma compliant because it wont hold the call while transfering back to mobile network.
Looking at the specs on orange uk business uma and wifi hotspot are not even mentioned in the device specifications, i truly hope thats just temporary as i really updated to this handset to gain the hotspot feature.

So as it stands now, on T-Mobile you can run UMA with 3G on an OS6 device, but not with any OS7 devices or those with 4G radios? Either of those conditions knocks you out of UMA?
Well, you can't run OS7 on their older 3G devices (9700/9780/8900/...) so that is obviously true, and the only OS7 device out today for T-Mobile, the 9900 can't run UMA either. So yes. No UMA on the 9900 is the answer.
So the 9780 had UMA or wi-fi calling? I used to turn off wi-fi because it would switch to UMA automatically but it would drop the call when I went out of range it would cut off. Was there something wrong with my 9780? Not that I care anymore but im just curious as to why it did that.
I use UMA on my 9780 with T-Mobile running OS6, and I can't live without it. Nice and seamless. I was wondering, in theory, if you could put OS6 on a 9900 on T-Mobile, could you do UMA? Just trying to understand whether the problem here is 4G radio or OS7 or both, such that you can't even do UMA on an OS7 3G device with T-Mobile?
It really looks like there is a problem with the 4G radios. The T-Mobile Curve 9360 just announced today lists UMA as a feature but it also says it is 3G. The 9900 is listed as 4G but no UMA.
In that case, why couldn't you go into the settings and turn off 4G (just allow 2G and 3G) and then add UMA?
UMA requires the proper hardware and the proper software, as well as carrier support, to work. It has not been activated on the 9900 yet. We still don't know if it will be UMA, which allows handoff, or GAN-Lite, which does not allow handoff (like on the t-mobile android phones). We also don't know if, or when, this feature will be activated, though November is the story that Magenta is sticking with. Of course, if it is like everything else out of RIM, maybe by April?:p

I don't believe you can separate the 3G from the 4G, the 4G is just enhanced 3G.
It doesn't matter at this point because the current versions of OS7 are not (yet) enabled for UMA. Allegedly in November a release will be issued which adds UMA (or perhaps UMA-Lite) plus mobile hotspot functionality.
The brand new Curve 9360, also on T-Mobile, also 4G, also running OS7, has Wi-Fi connectivity for voice. Yet the 9300 doesn't?

How is that fair? Doesn't this make your blood boil? Time to trade in the 9900 for a 9360 for greater functionality.
EDIT: OK, maybe the 9360 is not 4G. And actually, the website also says the 9900 has Wi-Fi calling, so maybe T-Mobile is lying about this for the 9360 also.
The 9360 is 3G and the 9900 is 4G and I think that is the problem, the 3G such as on the 9700 supports UMA but the 4G doesn't.
