Hey guys, I'm upgrading from a bold 9780 to the 9900 and I was told by the tmobile rep that because the 9900 is a 4G device, i'll be getting a new SIM and the sim that I currently use in the 9780 wont work 100% because it's not a 4G sim. Can any of you 9900 owners confirm that it's a new special sim?

    Thanks!

It's possible, but I haven't heard anything about that myself. My understanding is that the only device that currently requires a 4G specific SIM is the new HTC Amaze. Either way it's really not that big of a deal to change the SIM when upgrading your device as the 9780 doesn't store contacts directly to the SIM anyway. Make sure you do a backup of your 9780 via DM, then load the backup file onto your 9900 and you'll be back in action. Plus, the new SIM is no charge...

Also, believe it or not, SIMs have a finite life, so good to get a new one.

I moved my SIM from my 9700 into my 9900 with no troubles, 4G came up on the display and I had no issues. However, that SIM decided to die on me after about a month so I replaced it with the one that came in the 9900 box.

I work for T-Mobile and I will confirm that there are different 4G SIM cards. Some of our new phones are shipping with the new SIM, and employees are instructed to swap out SIM cards on new models. Yes, your old SIM will work, but you will have better 4G reception in some areas with the new SIM. I swapped mine out, but I didn't really notice a difference.

Don't take my word for it, but a CS rep told me that the SIMs that come in the box last 60 days... That's what I have been told at least.

do you mean they last 60 days and then expire? i was planning on using my current sim to avoid having to change a bunch of stuff.

I'm thinking the CS rep is misinformed. What possible reason could T-Mobile have for making Sim cards last only 60 days?
