At&t Blackberry Bold vs At&t Iphone 4 Browser Test

I picked up a Blackberry Bold 9900 from At&t yesterday. At&t's Bold is on their 4G (HSPA+) Network and the Iphone 4 is still on the 3G Network. I decided to do a browser test.

Both phones had full service (NO WIFI, Network Only).

I cleared the Cache on both phones. I loaded 5 Different Sites (ESPN.com, Crackberry.com, Yahoo.com, Woot.com, Amazon.com)

BLACKBERRY BOLD WON EVERYTIME! At&t's Bold on their 4G(HSPA+) Network loaded two or three times faster then my iPhone 4 running on At&t's 3G Network!!!

I was shocked! I am very happy with the Blackberry Bold and the new OS 7 Apps!!

so did a test using 4G on your bold and 3G for the iphone and the 3G phone lost. Do you understand the difference between 3G and 4g (HSPA+) ?

At this point, I'm not even sure if AT&T does.

very true...that cant make up their mind what 4G they want to use lol

They could hit relatively the same network speeds using hspa+ at less infrastructure cost. I guess they care more about being able to market as LTE though...

Yes, I understand... It was just a test because the Blackberry browser has been very poor in the past, EVEN ON WIFI BROWSING!
I know At&t's "4g" is faster then the 3G but it's not like it was a 4G LTE vs 3G test....

Still impressive buzzon! Even if it is on par with Safari, that is a huge leap for RIM. From my experience, I've tested my Bold 9930 on VZW, a friends HTC Arrive (WP7) on Sprint, and anothers i4S on AT&T and got nearly identical load times for all three.

The i4s on HSPA+ should have the advantage there and did win on a few tests but not by much.

I think the most even test is to use both phones, on the same carrier. i.e. AT&T iPhone 4S vs. AT&T Bold 9900 vs. AT&T Moto Atrix 2.

Dual Cell HSPA+ (not sure if AT&T's H+ is DC?), on the high end has actual download speeds at the low end of LTE (7-14Mbps for DCH+ versus 12-25Mbps for LTE)

At higher battery drain and infrastructure cost... Not to mention introducing LTE/3g handoff problems.

I'm happy with At&t's HSPA+, I think LTE will drain the battery too much.

Yes, look at the Evo on Sprint's network. Aside from the screen causing battery drain, that phone craps out in a few hours. And that's all thanks to Sprint's LTE.

Yeah, but don't confuse LTE with WiMax. Sprint does not have LTE tech yet. Verizon and AT&T are the only ones at the moment.

Agreed! My 9810 Torch is nearly as fast as my PC and faster than my buddy's i4.

Its true.. Her last BB was a 9650 so she has bad memories of a slow browser lol! I cant stress it enough how much improved the 9810/9900/30 is.

I ran the test with my iphone 4 and Last night I did a test vs my girlfriend's new iPhone 4S.
Blackberry loaded a little faster and wasn't as choppy, when scrolling while both were still loading the website. I am impressed with the Blackberry Bold 9900!
