Does anyone think that AT&T may lower the full retail price of the BB 9900 soon ? I currently use the IP4S and have had the BB 9000 and 9700 which I loved. I'd like to get the 9900 but I think 549.00 is a little steep. Being that RIM isn't doing too well with their product offerings and are taking extreme criticism, is there much of a chance of lowering their prices before BB10 ?

I don't think so most of the time they only lower prices when new products come out maybe try on the crackberry forums marketplace see if any are for sale maybe the best option for a lower priced att 9900.

I keep hoping the 199.99 upgrade price will decrease. Don't feel comfortable purchasing online due to all the bricking issues. And certainly would not buy used on the forums and not have a warranty.

I don't think they will, the BB10 will be available only at the end of 2012 and the OS7 devices pricing won't drop that fast.

Haven't thought about that, but it certainly has some merit. I may have to continue using my 9700 for a while longer.

Do what I did and get a 9780. I was in your camp waiting for the 9900, but not at it's inflated price. The 9780 is so much better than the 9700.

Isn't the only difference the camera and OS 6?

Camera and memory. BlackBerry Bold 9780 - Full phone specifications

BlackBerry Bold 9700 - Full phone specifications

If you do get a 9780, do not get one branded to T-Mobile. You will only get 2G (EDGE) on AT&T using a T-Mobile device.

There was one mistake in the 9700 specs listed. The 9700 is capable of using a 32GB microSD card, as is the 9780.

As far as full retail pricing goes, I remember in early 2010, AT&T had lowered the full retail price of all their BlackBerry devices for a short period of time. I had gotten my 3GS for Christmas and given up my Sprint 9630. In February of 2010, I was able to get the 9700 with AT&T for $349 plus tax from in the store. They also had the bold 9000 at that time going for the same price. The curve 8520 and 8900 were like $299 or so I think. Maybe you will have similar luck...

My bet is that the retail for BB7 phones will drop during Q1 2012. Its simple, RIM is losing market share and with BB10 being a year away (and probably more as we all know RIM doesn't deliver on time) they need something to keep customer count up.

Two local T-Mobile store managers tell me too many people switch to Android phones when they see the price of the 9900 and 9810. Both managers are Blackberry fans and they promote customers to stay on their grandfathered $20 BIS plan, etc. but people get sticker shock. its sad, but true.

I've never upgraded my phone through the carrier because it always costs more.

Right now Amazon is selling the Bold 9900 on At&t for $99

Thats the contract price which is excellent ! I was hoping the full retail price would drop a bit for the holidays through AT&T...Maybe RIM could add more subscribers if they didn't charge so much for their devices (off contract) ...or does AT&T set the price ?
