My question is, I have an At and T data plan for my iPhone 7, but I'm thinking about downgrading from my iPhone 7 to a blackberry, Do I need to change my current data plan so it can work with a blackberry? Thank you for your time.

Yes a 9930/9900 "needs" a BIS plan in order to function correctly. You have to find someone at AT&T that knows what a BlackBerry Interent Service plan is, and see if they'll activate a new device at this point.

Additionally, you could get a Q10 which is similar to the 9900 and does not require BIS.

AT&T includes the BIS plan for no additional charge. Just insert the sim card and have them provision the device on the network and all is good.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is a trick to getting legacy devices to operate without BIS. Might be worth looking into?

Why would you want to go to a BlackBerry when you have an iPhone 7?!?

At least BlackBerry doesn't include code to purposely slow down older devices to 'encourage' you to purchase new devices yearly.

Also, some people do not like the "walled pit" that is Apple. Diversity and thinking differently is okay.

I like blackberry but they are getting too old and they only support 3g plus the person already has the iPhone so what’s the point of switching back

The last 9930 Bold was a beautiful device but the Q10 is very similar with more ability (Blend, BBOS 10, slightly better browser, etc). Just my two cents; look for a new in the box Q10 on Ebay and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to live with. No BIS necessary.

Or you would have to get a new battery earlier. Slow vs No.

At least Apple is still developing their own OS and still making phones. They actually update the software periodically as well.
