- Now that we have all had a downloading frenzy over the past few days, what is the vedict on the two recent updated OS's ?
503 or 540 ?
I have had .503 installed since the day of the leak and IMO it seems to be fine, stable with best battery life yet.
Is .540 a step forward or do we stick with .503 until OS 7.1 comes out ?11-17-11 12:56 PMLike 0 - Same here. Which might be the best to use?

Is .540 a step forward or do we stick with .503 until OS 7.1 comes out ?11-17-11 02:00 PMLike 0 - sleepngbearRetired ModeratorTough question. I've been through .474, .503, and now two days on .540. Today the OS seems to finally be stabilizing after some major battery-sucking yesterday. I'm now averaging about 4.3% per hour drain with moderate browsing, messaging and emails, as opposed to stretches in the teens yesterday with similar usage. It's been very stable and I've had no issues at all, but so was .503. I'm also just itchy and can't stand to let a leak go by unloaded; I mean, three OS installs in six days on a brand new phone is really not necessary. Battery life might be marginally better -- certainly not worse; otherwise I really don't see much of a difference between the two.
As for 7.1, as far as I know it's still just a rumor, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Have you personally upgraded to this OS ? Won't ask you to comment on if it is better that .503 as I recall that you do not give opinions on OS's
Do you have any news on a timescale for 7.1 ?11-17-11 03:20 PMLike 0 -

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-17-11 03:35 PMLike 0 - With 7.0.0.540 my 9900 is running already for 31hours and the battery is still 42% (with 6hours auto power-off durring night) - moderate use: 10-15 calls, many e-mails, frequent use of twitter and some internet browsing. Everything with alternating 3G and wifi cnnection.
Wifi, 3G and bluetooth are always on.
I found .540 better than .503 (much snappier and stable) and a lot better than iPhone 4S with ios 5.0.1 (max 28hours usable) wich for now is my primary phone (not for long)
Definitely go for .54011-17-11 03:43 PMLike 0 - With 7.0.0.540 my 9900 is running already for 31hours and the battery is still 42% (with 6hours auto power-off durring night) - moderate use: 10-15 calls, many e-mails, frequent use of twitter and some internet browsing. Definitely go for .54011-17-11 03:49 PMLike 0 - Phill_UKCrackBerry WiseguyYou can't compare someone else's battery life to what yours might be, as there are far too many variables.
Only one way to find out... try it for it yourself
I've used both .503 and currently .540 and to be honest, I can't really tell the difference between the two.
One thing I would say though, Vodafone UK have tested both .503 and .540 then decided to go official with .540
There would have been a reason for that decision... unfortunately, we'll never know what it was though11-17-11 04:14 PMLike 0 - Phill_UKCrackBerry WiseguyNo, I don't... but I wouldn't expect too much from it when it eventually arrives.
It's only going to be basic OS7, with the addition of Mobile Hotspot and Wifi Calling features... nothing ground-breaking, and no magical battery lifeduck383 likes this.11-17-11 04:21 PMLike 1 - I installed .540 yesterday morning and MeterBerry is showing less than 1.7% drain/hour in standby. I was getting around 6% on .474.11-17-11 07:19 PMLike 0

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com11-17-11 07:31 PMLike 0 - Well, I skipped .503 altogether and went to .540. I thought battery life was great on .540 but the drivesafe.ly app didn't work! <see below thread that I started>. I'm going to downgrade to .503 and see how it goes from there. Battery life was more important to me than the app, but I would like to have my cake and eat it too.

Hope that helps!11-18-11 08:44 AMLike 0 -
Seemed slower to load than .503 but did load with no problems.
Will let you know how it compares when it has settled in but so far after after a full charge MeterBerry still on 99+ after 1 hour on idle.
Still has the MeterBerry issue that was in .503 i.e. can not change the logging menus from standard settings, any thoughts ?Last edited by Legal Eagle; 11-18-11 at 08:56 AM.

- Too early for me to say from personal experience, but the general consencus seems to be that it is a small improvement over .503 and certainly no worse11-18-11 12:18 PMLike 0
