Hiya
I have been reading conflicting information and wanted to know if Skype is available on the 9900. I also wanted to know if I am able to download magicjack onto the 9900.
Any advice for a BB virgin is much appreciated.

i can tell you that skype is available on the 9930.
do you need the 9900 for specific reason?
MagicJack? Wtf, of course not.
As for Skype, it will only work on the Verizon network.

Hey Mark
Thanks for the response. The bb9900 is the version that I have just purchased and thought skype or magicjack would automatically work! I guess I still have some way to go with understanding the world of bb
:o
lol, thanks for this. We don't got Verizon in the UK
Only Three have it on their network in the UK
I'm sure (okay, just really hoping) that other carriers will come out with Skype for their BB's.
I have VZW 9930, but the more carriers/phones that have it then the more relevant it is. I'm not a big Skype user. I've only used it a handful of times, and only one of those times I actually video chatted with someone. But it's still a nice feature to bring to BB and get more fanfare :)
When Skype came out for the BlackBerry phones it was exclusive to Verizon in the US. It looks like Verizon and Skype still have that exclusive deal going. In a quick Google search I could not find anyone who has gotten Skype to run on a BlackBerry that's on any other network.
MagicJack is a device that you plug into a computer and use with a wired house phone. There is no way to use it with any cellular telephone.
Don't feel too bad, even Verizon's version of Skype isn't true VoIP - my understanding is that calls still go over their voice network and use plan minutes.
Will be interesting to see if the Microsoft purchase changes anything.
Maybe some can tell me the use of Skype without a front camera?
Free good quality calls
Not 100% free for US Skype calls.
support verizonwireless
Call to a domestic number (either mobile or landline): Billed according to calling plan Note, All included plan minutes apply accordingly (i.e. Friends & Family, Mobileto Mobile, Unlimited Nights & Weekends and Anytime Minutes)
Call to an international number outside of the U.S. (either mobile or landline): Not deducted from the Verizon Wireless calling plan. Deducted from Skype Credit
I hope BB devices get a FFC next. I like using Skype for video calling
I think the reason why SKYPE isn't on BB phones is because RIM do not want to overload their since all traffic goes to RIM servers.
Thats why in some country where they offer unlimited internet through the blackberry.net APN, any audio or video streaming is additional charge to the unlimited internet.

Why do networks release it? Skype are just limiting their target audience even more, then again, that's probably going to happen a lot more, since they were acquired by Microsoft who are probably going to destroy cross-platform use.
