Only noticed it a few times and the signal where i live can change from the living room gprs 3 bars to on the fireplace 3g 4 bars???

Does it??
Ive had it sat side by side with 9700 and they seem the same, the 9700 might just be a little better at switching signals...
I have 585 os running with 540 antenna file as thats what people said was the best??

.540 was pulled by RIM, supposedly due to a poor radio file.
Try either full .585 or .590 instead.

I had the same hybrid OS like you before, but currently I have .503 antenna and in my opinion, .585/.503 is better along with better battery management.
