    i have a few questions:

    1. why does everyone say they have these lower numbered os? (ie .474, .503) when mine says 7.0.0.bundle 1315?

    2. if i am just looking for better battery life... should i go for .503? or .540?

and 3: didnt i read that there was an update released that offered wifi hotspot? i know that is coming with 7.1, but i swear i saw a thread if people trying to get their wifi hotspot!

i was running .540 for the last week and was very pleased with it. i upgraded to .585 and *i think" i'm noticing a slight upgrade in performance, we'll see about battery tomorrow....

edit- and to answer your first question just look at the v7.0.0.xxx (.xxx being .474, .503, etc.) when comparing operating systems

Have a look at the screen shot.
The OS 7.0.0.503 that everyone is referring to corresponds to bundle 2173 and platform 5.0.0.670

So you are looking at the wrong info part

On .540 got discharge rate of 7% but running .503 for some hours I got 3.6%, 3.6% not good enough still

I guess experience vary a lot. Have used for a while 540 but later moved back to 503, adding cods from 540 for chinese input.

My issue with 540 is that it heats a lot the phone/battery, even with lite use. Using for a minute or two the phone, BBM when on WiFi, the temperature jumps to 37/8 degrees Celsius easily. If stay on a call for bit longer, for example, jumps to 40 and over - obviously very bad for the battery.

With 503 the phone hardly goes over 30 degrees, and after a long call, 10-15 minutes or so, it might jump to 32.

Other than temperature differences, havent noticed anything else comparing the two systems. Btw, in the beginning was wondering it is bad install of 540, tryed couple installs with same result.

On both OSes was getting the very same bug - wasnt able to save the settings of Podcast Application. Immediately after fresh install, doing device security wipe fixes this issue.

    Personally very happy with 503.

I've heard RIM pulled out .540. Been using .503 for weeks and it's the best for me, but now I'm on .585. .540 though was the worst for me.
