I have the 9650 and it still works GREAT!! But kicking around upgrading to the 9930 for Xmas, are there still widespread issues with 9930's still bricking? I see OS updates every now and again to the 9930's. Thanks

Unfortunately, yes. I had the same idea as you, but I don't want to risk buying a used 9930. Fortunately, the 9650 is still a great phone, so it and the Playbook will keep my techno-lust in check until RIM can fix the bricking issue.

Idk if bricking is a issue anymore with 7.1. I guess I'll have to plug it in and see...

Not sure... I say go for it. Any bricking issue you may see could potentially be fixed with update in OS.

Personally, I've had my 9930 since August, have gone through various bad apps and OS updates, and I have yet to see any "bricking" happening.

Unbricked my 9900 by following the no jvm apploader process with the .585 OS. I believe the bricking issue is over as long as you're running the newer OS's.

My 9930 bit the dust Sunday morning. Plugged it in to chrage over night and in the morning just have a flashing red indicator. Tried the software update but gets stuck on trying to reconnect jvm and doesn't go anywhere.

I ran in to the same problem. I would suggest downloading the sprint 7.1 OS and (deleting the vendor.xml files if on verizon) do the software update with the battery removed. This fixed my 9930 and saved me from getting my new phone replaced by a refurb unit from verizon. There are a few other posters on here that have had success with the 7.1 OS in recovering the 9930. Good luck.

I'm also checking on the 9930 bricking before diving in and abandoning my 9650. Sounds as if it may still be an issue. I guess I do read the 9900 is more of a problem. But I guess for the price, around $200, I don't want any problems.

I guess the pizzazz of a new unit is a draw but there's probably nothing wrong with my 9650 that really warrants replacement.

There is no "widespread" bricking/nuking issue with the 99xx!

Yes, there are a lot of ppl on the forum who have run into the issue, but it is FAR from widespread. You need to keep things in perspective, there are millions of 99xx's around the world and only an extremely small percentage are having this issue.

More than likely, should you get the phone, you will not have a problem with it. If by some fluke change you do, just bring it back to your carrier and they will give you another.

Verizon is going to replace this phone for me, it will be my 3rd 9930. Hopefully it works longer than 2 months, lol.
