Hi I would like to know if its possible to change the settings so you can press in the number you want to dial before pressing the call bottom first?

On the home screen press the BB menu button and go to options and where it says Launch by Typing, set it to application short cuts. Then on the home screen hold down say the button 'e' for 2 seconds and a menu should pop up asking to add this as a speed dial.

You don't need to change any settings... have you tried doing exactly what you said? It works for me. In the home screen I dial the number and then press send.

EDIT: for extra convenience you don't even have to use the "alt" key, just dial the number.
