Okay, really, last place I would've been expecting this as I thought BB hadn't even been in the market.

I happened to be watching a Korean drama one day (it's ok, not the greatest, in case you're curious, I think the title translates roughly as "Immortal Classic" or something like that) and imagine my surprise when I saw many, if not all, of the characters whip out their Bold 9900's to take calls. The characters are not even government or business types, some of them look like regular countryside type people.

I think there's about an even split of the black and white 9900's to be had. Actually to date I've only seen one white 9900 in real life anyways, so that was a bit of a shocker. Blackberry wasn't even listed as one of the sponsor's/advertisers of the drama so I'm not sure what was going on there. I figure anyone not using Samsung or LG would've been branded a traitor over in Korea.

No, sadly, it is not that recent a drama, I think it's 3-4 years old, but still, it was a pleasant surprise. And in my (admittedly biased) opinion, it is still a fine looking phone.

That's funny. I was watching a Korean movie from 1999 called "Attack the Gas Station" and my friend pointed out "oh that's a Samsung built car!" I was like whaaaaaaaat? And sure enough, this is how I found out a couple of weeks ago Samsung built cars. One of those companies that builds EVERYTHING.

As for 9900's in the wild it has been years since I saw one also, maybe 2 years.

Har har! I just realized, the name of the drama is so fitting!
"Immortal Classic" or "Immortal Masterpiece" ... I think that might be a fitting description for the Bold 9900 itself! Maybe it's a secret joke project by some BB fan in Korea.
