I could be crazy but I thought my 9930 had this feature at first but I re-installed OS because of a JVM error and now I can't do phone number searches. And I definitely had this feature on previous Blackberries.

Basically I should be able to search any 2-digit, 3-digit, 4-digit number string and have the BB search my contacts folder. I can't get this to work at all -- in fact if I put numbers in the search it searches everything but Contacts. If I search in Contacts only names work. Ideas? I used this feature all the time -- it was great for area codes if you couldn't remember someone's name.

I don't believe that has ever been possible on BlackBerry.

It is checked but still nothing works for search (of phone numbers). I'm sure my BB 8900 had this -- I used it all the time. I'm thought the 9930 did too but less sure. I have no idea why it disappeared or doesn't work for me.

The 9930 does not have that option. It only filters contacts by name. Also the 8900 older OS search and universal search do not function in the same way.

It is crazy that RIM removed this feature between OS5 and OS7 -- it was a great feature.
