I know there have been a lot of threads about the battery issues and I apologize if this has been asked before. Is the battery life better on 7.1? I am currently using 7.0.0.540 and just installed Meterberry and my discharge rate is fluctuating but is at 5.1% right now, but I have only had it installed for 30 minutes. Does it have to be installed for a longer period of time to get an accurate reading? Thanks!

The latest 7.1 leaks (.190 and .205) seem to be getting good reviews in general for battery life.

In my experiencve the best 7.0 build was the Hybrid .585/.540.

I ran 7.1.0.190 from the day it leaked and it was as good as if not slightly better than the Hybrid.

It is still very early days with regard to the latest leaked 7.1.0.205 but for me it has settled in quite well and after less than 24 hours is running better than the .190 leak.

All you can really do is give it a try as everyone has different apps and signal levels to contend with so to be honest it is a matter of suck it and see, but inherently the latest 7.1 leaks seem to be an improvement over 7.0.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will try it. How about the battery drain rate that I'm experiencing. Good?

Battery life is a very individual thing. It all depends on your own useage, what apps you have installed and what refresh rates you are using on the apps as well as the quality of the signal you get and of course how often you use the phone.

I have no apps other than MeterBerry installed and just use the phone for business, calls, texts and e.mails with very little browsing and I always get a discharge rate of less than 2.5% throughout a working day. At weekends when it is mostly idling I get under 1%.

If you do go for 7.1 you will find a built in Device Analyser which is found via Options-Device-Advanced System Settings-Blackberry Device Analyser which people seem to be finding useful to identify anything that is causing a higher than expected battery drain. If you think that your battery life is not as good as it could be run this function and see what it tells you.

It's all relative. 5.1% is great if you'd been using the phone over the 30 minutes. If it's been sitting idle (ie: you hadn't touched it at all), then I'd say it's high. Overnight, my idle discharge is around 1 - 2.5%. Under heavy usage it will easily jump to 7 - 10% discharge. You also have to take things like WiFi and signal strength into account (which can dramatically effect battery life).

At the end of the day, I don't find meterberry very useful to compare against other people (as there are too many variables), but it is great to keep an eye on your own discharge rates. Over time you can get an idea of what eats your battery and try to compensate...

For me, 7.1 is better, I'm getting about 12 more hours of battery life over 7.0.0.374. Before I dleted meterberry, my avg discharge rate, was 2.2%.

I find 7.0.0.540 and 7.0.0.590 to be the best of them all. However, 7.0.0.190 does a pretty good job in terms of battery life.

Since I upgraded to 7.1 I have noticed my battery meter sometimes only says the my phone is charged to 90%. I went to Verizon and got a new batter...still the same thing going on...so this is a glitch in the OS. Other wise...no issues with 7.1

Not an issue I have seen widely reported.

Maybe worth trying a reload of the OS.

I have 7.1.0.163 currently on my 9900, and the best battery life is as good as I've ever had on a blackberry (this is number 5). On days where i send 30-40 sms or bbm's, check and send lots of emails, and have wifi and bluetooth on all day, I still have 40-50% battery when I go to bed. I've been running it for at least 2 weeks with no problems so far.

As per my personal experience, 7.0.0.540 is better than 7.1 and other upgraded version Operating system. Since I use my BB a lot, it never show less than 35% battery till the end of the day.

I had 40% battery left with 7.0.0.590 at the end of day. With 7.1.0.205 I have about 50-60% left.
