Judging by every simulator besides the 99xx, I noticed there was no NFC feature available. For this reason I assumed it would be the only one.

Now it seems it's confirmed based on the new official spec sheets of the Torches.

Same story seems to be going for the 9810. Am I jumping to conclusions here?

Although it's only a guess, I'm lead to believe that the 99X0 is the only BlackBerry with NFC capabilities due to its battery door. In most of the videos shown, it is no ordinary cover and is actually the key to the functionality of NFC. The battery doors on the Torches are your standard battery doors.

Right. My thoughts were that they would be changed by final release. But now that it is official, looks like it's true.

Even though I'm considering the Bold over the others, it's a shame they couldn't keep it uniform among all of them. Not the biggest deal though. They seem to have just about everything else.

They just added them after announcing the phones. Pretty snazzy looking info pages, I like it.

They also have the 9810 info page.

Oh wow. I just noticed the post on the main blog. Very nice. Looks like I'll be up for another half hour at least.

Anyways, to get back on topic, it is a shame that the other phones appear to be missing the NFC feature. At this point, it's most likely finalized. I'm sure it will become a standard feature across all BlackBerrys in time though. Consider how some phones from a few years back was missing the GPS feature, while others were missing WiFi.

Oh I can definitely see it being a standard feature in the future. I'm just referring to the upcoming BB7 handsets.

It's pretty nice that the 99xx even has it. Only two other phones out right now have the capability (Nexus S, Galaxy S II [some versions]).

Why include it before the infrastructure to use it is readily available? But people do buy purely for the specs....

Heh. Just look at the EVO. 4G is hardly widespread, and whenever it's usable, the battery life gets crushed.

The specs attract me, but then reality sets in. When I saw the 9810 didn't have NFC either I was immediately disappointed, and started to second guess getting it.

But then I thought "what the **** am I seriously going to use it for?"

It's definitely not as handy as say WiFi, Bluetooth, or GPS currently. I would like to have something that is a little future proof though if I'm going to lock myself in for 2 years. Then again, it's understandable how some might not find it necessary if they're interested in either of the Torches.

It's definitely meant for the future. NFC is at its infancy stages but in the future you will basically be able to use your phone as a credit card.

I like the concept and idea of NFC, and I really hope it takes off here in the states. I wish the Torches had it, but I can make do without it for now. I upgrade my phone basically every year, so by the time I can use NFC in a practical way my Torch will already be gone.

By not including NFC on all three devices, the risk slowing adoption.

If all three had NFC then more people would want NFC enabled items available to them.

The battery door on the 9860 is not just a plain standard door. It is metal with 4 spring loaded contacts on the back of the device that have some kind of function. Just not sure what their purpose is.

Can you compare to see how similar the 99xx and the 9860/9850 battery doors are?
I thought NFC was RIM's new secret weapon against other smartphones where someone would "bump" phones together to add them to BBM...but if its only for payment and posters then I don't really care if its only for the bold.

They really have to take this technology to the next level...
