I have a Bold 9900 with ATT. Just came across this update (OTA). Reads 7.0.0 Bundle 2216. (Originally came with 7.0.0 Bundle 1950) Has anyone else downloaded this?? Is this hopefully the fix we've been waiting for?? I'll post if I notice anything different.
I downloaded it earlier this evening. It was funny though b/c I opened an email earlier and when I was done reading it, I wasn't able to delete it. It was just frozen, battery pull did not work nor did the alt-caps-del option. It seems normal so far, I did a battery pull after the update and it hung on the Blackberry loading screen & and app fail to update but that's about it. Hopefully it fixes the red light issue when you discharge the battery and the green light showing after it's supposed to be fully charge when it's off.
downloaded and installed; no difference that i can see. says v7.0.0.440 which is the same as it was before the update, i think.
BTW, the update was only like 3mb but it took over a hour to install, whats up with that?
I doubt this fixes the bricking issue; seems very likely a hardware problem or else it would have been fixed by now (i cant imagine a higher priority then fixing it, has to be costing RIM alot of cash to replace all these bricked phones; and if they admit a hardware problem their stock price will fall even lower).
Maybe they saw the writing on the wall on took out Carrier IQ.
I'm not suggesting that AT&T had added the carrier iq coding, but it would seem silly for them to release an update to remove that. They're too big to worry about such a non-issue. I always assume that when AT&T puts something out, the are trying to get it's users to pay for an additional service.
should i update to .540 (which i downloaded before it was pulled) or stick with stock att os and perform this ota update?
interested in battery life and not bricking
thanks
Stick with the stock OS. Leaked OS always come with caveat that it is at your own risk. I have had mine for 22 days and no bricking. Also, turn it off when charging overnight. Until the version is updated, there appears to be no advantage at this point in terms of official releases.
I've had mine now for about 3 weeks i think and no bricking or problems other than having to recharge the battery during the day sometimes. I leave my phone on at night in the charging pod nightly with no problems.
I finished the update last night and it did take take a while; over an hour. So far, nothing seems different but I will post more thoughts later today if the battery life has been affected--which is the only thing I really care about at this point (as it currently sucks!).
There is nothing earth shattering this this update folks. I have been testing it for the last couple weeks and its seems to only be a couple of minor radio tweaks.
