Making A Decision
First off let me apologize if I put this in the wrong forum but I figured that since this has to do with the 9930 it was the right spot. I'm a 21 year old college student. I currently have a Samsung Epic. I love the phone but only because I rooted it since it was running horribly slow, but in all honesty, I don't use it to its full potential. I never play games, rarely browse the web (only to see a soccer, baseball or football score, that is) or watch any videos or listen to music and I basically only use the keyboard to type or I use Swype. I have nothing wrong with full touch screen devices it's just that I find the keyboard to be much better. I am now contemplating between the iPhone 5 and the BlackBerry Bold 9930. But the thing that is pushing me towards the iPhone is seeing all these threads on here complaining about the 9930 and also threads about running Desktop Manager on a mac. I firstly would like to know which would be a better fit for me, I would also like to know why are so many people complaining about their 9930's and also whether or not using DM on a mac isn't that great. Again, I apologize if this post annoys anyone or if it's in the wrong forum. Thank you for the help in advance.

I can say anything about the 9930, i have a 9900 which has been great i had another 9900 which also was great but sold it to a friend,
For the Desktop Software (name changed) it works perfectly with my BlackBerry Bold it sometimes doesn't work with the playbook but with all my BlackBerry Smartphones is perfect.

I have no issues with my 9930. Desktop software for a PC works great and syncs with Itunes no problem. I can even load songs through the wireless option. Can't speak for Mac. If a bunch of apps is not your thing then the 99xx would be a great form factor and the keyboard is awesome. Go with the Underdog.

You should wait and test them out before you make a decision. Don't get persuaded by others. Get what you want.

my 9900 is good. I have had it now for a month. Its a solid phone. But if you're not going to use a smartphone to its full potential, maybe having a smartphone in general may not be a good idea. Might as well save money and buy a regular phone to fit your needs.

I don't use the media part of the phone to it's full potential. I use some things and their are certain apps I use daily. I send and receive email, use pandora, go on google+, text more than I thought I initially said, make calls (that's the main part of a phone). So getting a "dumb" phone is not an option since it won't have the apps I want/need.

Desktop Manager for MAC does the job, but keep in mind that you are not able to update the OS on MAC. You'll have to either be comfortable to the OS the phone comes with or find a PC when you want to update it.

I don't have any issues using Blackberry Desktop Software (Mac's version of DM) with my smartphone. I don't sync, I only back up/restore. If I am to do more things to the phone like wiping/upgrading the OS, or doing other fixes to the phone, I do that on a PC (either my Desktop or through Windows using VMware Fusion on my Mac).
I know people that like touch-screens like the keyboard on the iPhone. But if you are looking for a great keyboard, the 9900/9930 is the best keyboard out there. If you are not going to use all those apps/media that the iPhone 5 will have, and all you really want is a phone to talk/text/e-mail/write notes, then maybe the Bold 9900/9930 is for you.
As for people complaining about their phones, there is always going to be the faulty phones. Apple has them, and Androids has them as well. Even when the iPhone 5 comes out, they will have some too. You need to weigh out what you want.
Remember if you want a new phone and you are going to upgrade or a new contract, you have about 30 days to return it from what I remember. So I guess something to try is to get one and if it doesn't fit to your liking, return it and try the other one. If you don't want to do that, then go to the stores and test it out there.
Good Luck on your decision and let us know what you pick. It's ok to go either way, you go with what fits you.

Always keep in mind that this is a BlackBerry forum, and typically this is where you go if you have a problems. You do a search online, this site pops up, you login and post your problems. Many people are probably happy with their device and would probably never come to this site. This would make the complaints seem higher than they really are.
I also find that a lot of complaints are regarding cosmetic defects; defects such as this are in the eye of the beholder as to whether they can live with it or not.
If you can wait and try them both out, that would be the best. I was on the fence between the Torch and Bold, but was able to give them both a try. I am glad I did because I thought the Torch was the phone for me, but I ended up with the Bold.

The 9930 is a solid device but it will not perform the same tricks as a android device will do! But it will give you the best communication device on the market hands down!
