I apologize if this is in the wrong forum or if someone has posted this before - but could someone explain the main differences between the 99## and 9790? Also, what do you think the price difference will be between the 2 phones?

    Thanks...

The size of the phone, I believe is the main difference. The 99## is going to have the form factor of the 9000 with a larger screen and thinner while the 9790 will resemble to 9700 and 9780.

The only thing we know for certain is the size of them, it might be that the smaller device also has a lower screen resolution as otherwise it would be an even higher density display.

It is far soon to tell what the price difference will be even if you did indicate your country, it might even be the case that it is only intended for some countries/carriers who didn't want the 9900.

I think its totally understandable to release both phones as the 9000 and the 9700/80 both have a huge following.
I for one like the form of the 9790

9900 will have a better display and I think RIM is targeting their loyal 9000 fans. Even though I like 9700, many other users have complains on the form factor of 9700, so 9900/9930 is the answer to that.

So, 9780 will have 9700 form factor.

In my opinion the 9700 series was a joke. It wasnt even BOLD. So thats what drew away most of their costumers. but now that they brought in the 990 they're drawing the 9000 bold fans back in. And with the 9790 the people who like the 9780/9700 form factor they're bring touch screen to that size, yeee digg?

I would have liked the 9900 to have the size it has, but the look of the 9790. Or the 9790 to have the size of the 9900. The 9790 looks modern. The 9900 resembles the old bold in appearance and looks outdated IMHO. The back of the 9700 9780 9790 looks classy. When I see people typing on those phones and I'm standing in front of them looking at the back of the phone, it looks impressive. I don't like the look of the back of the 9900. Decissions decissions.

Let's just hope the 9790 doesn't have the stuttering key syndrome. After all-- Rim never did acknowledge it so you never know.
Anyhow. things are about to get interesting for us BB people. :-))))

different tastes for different people.thats how rim coordinates its business.there were lots of complaints about the size of the original bold when it first launched.the 9700 satisfied that part of the crowd.the 9780 came with complaints just piling on about the key stuttering issue.i think rim will not have that problem again in the 9790.i knew rim had the 9790 locked in their safe.it was just about time people got to realize that it was not a scratched prototype.at the end of day,it just goes down to if you like a large pie or medium pie of pizza.(an analogy).

has anyone noticed that the 9900 and the 9930 the design of the phone is like straight and the 9790 is kina curved at the top like the other blackberries i think they shoulda curved it a bit at the top for the 9900 to make it look better just my opinion supposuly the 9790 is a non touchscreen

Actually, 99XX and 9790 use the same JM1 battery, as seen in pics, similar to the way 9000 and 9700/80 used The M-S1. The batteries are thinner, rated at a lower mah, but are alleged to have a more efficient ratio and get similar life to the current devices.

We'll see how that works out, soon.

Same battery, but the smaller screen will boost the battery slightly assuming there aren't more internal differences we don't know about.

I would be more inline with wanting the 9790 then the 9900 for the same reasons.

Even though I wouldn't want to see te 9790 take a hit in the screen quality
    department.

The 9900 just isn't for me. They should of used all that extra space (the large area below the space key and on the top where is says Blackberry) and made its screen even bigger/taller.

If your going to carry a brick it better be a good one.

'Extra' space? Have you even looked at the inside of a modern cellphone? There is a reason for every design, both in functionality and Aesthetics, plus a little thing called ergonomics. The last thing the majority of Bold users want to see is a keyboard that is positioned like those of the Droid Pro/XPRT.

I was hoping that RIM would produce a non-touch version of the 9900 and since the 9790 has a smaller screen, that device would be the one I was hoping for. Guess not though....

Every time I see this suggestion I would suggest people try out that motorola attempt at a qwerty device as it means people do not understand the ergonomics of the design, increasing the size of the screen at the top of the device by reducing the gap at the bottom will make the device top-heavy and less usable.

I would suspect that outside of low end curve models we have seen the last blackberries without a touchscreen, it simply wouldn't make sense for them to have two models that were identical except for the touchscreen since it wouldn't expand their market just steal sales from each other.

honestly get the 9900 one instead, much better, as you know, 9900 is their flagship device and always will be at least for this year. I heard that 9790 has the same resolution as 9780 so 9900 has much higher resolution. I dont really like the button between the trackpad in 9790 also if you have a quick look at the phone, the back part of the phone is more cheap quality compared to 9780 (rubber vs flimsy plastic) But again you are the one that decide
