Is the difference purely language support, or are there technical improvements over the O2 version? Just curious.

This goes back a while, but there are typically three possible versions of an OS:

The "all language" version, which as you might expect has all of the available languages included.

The "multilanguage (m)" version which has a SUBSET of languages offered - mainly European languages.

The "asia" version which has a SUBSET of languages offered - mainly Asian languages.

Damn it. How do I change the name of the thread!

This is for Claro Agentina which released the last Firmware update for the Bold 9900.

this is NOT the O2 UK version. (I was just copying the official format.

    please help!
Hit the report button. Let us handle it? This is a newer release of the OS. Package version 2940 vs 2930 of that from O2 software platform is also newer. Surprised they call it 1098 still. Will load this up now, and see what the fuss is all about.

Here's my updated OS install guide if anyone needs a refresher...

    ELITE1's OS UPGRADE GUIDE
    (updated 2012-09-01)

    1. (Optional) Uninstall any previous OS from PC.
    2. Download OS to PC. Use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or Chrome. (For leaked versions, browser is irrelevant.)
*If 100% certain you previously used FF or Chrome on same PC to DL an OS successfully, feel free to use FF or Chrome again.
    3. Following successful DL, run OS file to install OS on PC.
    4. On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.
    5. Go through any 3rd party apps with option to save settings to media card. Conduct Backup to media card within each of these apps. (Examples: Bellshare apps like BerryBuzz & BerryWeather; QuickLaunch; Shao's apps like Wallpaper Changer & SixTools; etc).
    6. Connect BB to PC. Open DM and backup device. Close DM.
    7. (Optional) Use desktop app like BBSAK or BBMCP to backup 3rd party apps.
    8. On PC, delete Vendor file located here:
      64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
      32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
    9. (Optional/Recommended) Run BBH Tool (formerly Shrink-A-OS) or BB Boss v2.2 (not as updated as BBHT).
    10. In same AppLoader file where you deleted Vendor, double-click Loader to load OS to BB. Follow onscreen instructions.
    11. After loading OS, perform several physical battery pulls over first 1-2 days for OS to "settle in." Perform first batt pull very soon after OS is loaded.

    **TROUBLESHOOTING**
How to Fix OS not Appearing as Available
    There are 2 common reasons:

    A. HIDDEN VENDOR FILE
Consider trying this new desktop app to remove Vendor from several common locations:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-files-709738/

If manually deleting Vendor, always hold down SHIFT and press DELETE to permanently delete.
    Check here first:
    64-bit: Computer\C:\Users\{USER NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    32-bit: Computer\C:\Documents and Settings\{USER NAME}\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
If Loader still doesn't make new OS available, search PC for "Vendor".

If Vendor is not found anywhere, see below to delete contents of AppLoader folder. (Folder where you found Loader & Vendor.)

    B. APPLOADER FOLDER ITEMS
    1. Uninstall the OS: Control Panel\Programs and Features, highlight this BlackBerry Device Software, click Uninstall at top.
    2. Delete AppLoader folder contents: Highlight any item, CTRL+A to select all, SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete.
      64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
      32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
    3. Restart PC.
    4. Re-install OS on PC: Go to your browser's downloads section, double-click OS to start InstallShield Wizard.
    5. Delete Vendor: Return to AppLoader folder, highlight Vendor, SHIFT+DELETE.
    6. Load OS to BB: Attach BB to PC, double-click Loader (in AppLoader folder, where you deleted Vendor).

PS I've posted this before in other threads, but there always seems to be some people that appreciate a step-by-step each time.

Does this means BlackBerry still supports OS7? And does this mean this is the latest version available for BlackBerry 9900 (running OS). I wonder when I can download this over the air. Any features or is it mostly bug fixes?

Maintenance update but some users reports a better battery life (little only) and better 2G&3G coverage.
Try berrilicio.us if you want faster browser and latest support. Im using it and very happy with it.
I tried 1098 OS from O2 and I notices worse battery life and some issues with battery level dropping, but
    this 1098 Claro works fine.

You'll have to be more specific.

I was a customer support rep for a long time, and found that our motto was different than the sales department because it was:

    "The customer is always wrong"

We always found when they said "the computer never works" it meant "it's working for everything except for this minor thing I want to do that hasn't work for a year because they didn't update the software like they were asked to do a dozen times"

And when we were told "it keeps crashing" it means: "I was watching tv and in the corner of my eye while falling a sleep I think I saw that it did something weird while my wife was watching porn on it"

So tell us what you see and what doesn't work?

    ##A-HOLE MODE OFF##

Sorry. must have left that on from work...sorry.

I appreciate this very much. Thanks!

    2 questions:
    1) My OS version of my phone is 7.0 bundle V7.0.0.598). How come the BB software on my mac says there are no updates available for it when I got to update it? I downloaded a much later version (.exe) from BB's site for ATT.
    2) Can I connect my phone to a PC and run the .exe file from it to update it?

    Thanks again...
    Mark

    Hey tmarkt.
Yes, the instructions are for windows computers. You need one to do all the steps. Emulating it in a virtual machine on your mac CAN be done if you know how to.

The software provided usually are versions found for different (than your) cel phone carrier. The blackberry software you have checks what your specific carrier cared to aprove.

The link on the OP gives you the direct download, you NEED to fill in the form, with anything, just the email address is required, rest can be what ever. but you do need to fill it.

To anyone running this Claro build, do you still encounter occasional blank HTML emails? This doesn't happen with all HTML emails. It's known to be an intermittent issue, and happens only with newer style emails which use more complex html/css styling. Funny thing is if you reboot your device, the email loads fine maybe 2-3 times, then goes blank again along with others like it until the next reboot.

I was using 7.1.0.1033 and wiped my device and installed 7.1.0.1098 O2, althouth the same issue continues. Wondering if there is any improvement here.

I am having issues with loading the OS on my BB 9900, please can someoene help me?

I have installed the device OS on my PC, installed the desktop manager and everything.

When I launch loader and choose USB PIN : Phone's pin and click "next" , the USB disconnects and it says fatal error. Even on the BB desktop software it says BB desktop software cannot communicate with the connected device. I have tried on all4 USB ports, with 3 or 4 different cables and still the same issue persists.

could this be a hardware fault on the phone?
    PLEASE HELP!
