Yes, it has been pretty bad how in the beginning they had 7.0 updates and now they want to cut off 7.1 and the features. Then how they've shut off the option of only 3G/4G and no 2G that's the big thing for me. I'm running 7.1.0.74 which I've been able to keep that function but not having the newer software does irritate me at times.
i have to admit that I am confused as to why the 9900 doesn't have 7.1. prior to getting my 9900, i got the torch 9810 which was running 7.1 out of the box. can't understand that one.

Are you saying your AT&T 9810 came with OS 7.1 out of the box....
It is unbelievable that AT&T still hasn't put out a 7.1 version !!! They must be 100% concentrating on launching another iPhone next month...
AT&T is not even thinking about it. RIM is such a small part of their sales. I hate to say it but they have to go for where there is money to be made and RIM is just not like it used to be.

Maybe - I'm not sure how much effort is involved in testing and verifying a release from a vendor (RIM, iOS, Google and now Microsoft). I have a suspicion that it's partly due to concerns about reported problems (such as the mic issue), and perhaps features and capabilities available in 7.1 that weren't in 7.0, and AT&T doesn't want to support them, perhaps for financial reasons, where others have. The easiest way to avoid the comparisons is not make them available. I've seen increasing numbers of AT&T Bold 9900's in business settings, so it's probably still important to AT&T. But I wonder how many of the users know or care about this issue? We certainly do!

Kinda true when you think about it, since Iphone user would get the 3gb or 5gb data plan. since they end up using alot more data = more $$$
While the rim can get the 250mb or was it 300mb plans and be able to stay under the limit?? for ATT they earn less $$$.
I think that is how it works right?
The best thing I would do, if I was at&t, is never hold out for them to provide any updates. Grab another carrier's OS and stick with it. Sure, it might be cumbersome to search for and delete vendor.xml files, but once you know where they are, simply surf to those folders and delete them pests, then load 'er up.
FWIW, the other day, I realized that I wasn't seeing the tape spool icon indicating waiting voice messages, and contacted Tech Support at AT&T to see if they could help. Well, the short of it is that after I told the tech that I was using OS 7.1, she said that it wasn't supported/released by AT&T, and that I would have to downgrade the OS for them to restore that feature. Not even a hint of any possibility of 7.1 from AT&T, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it!

Wow, just Wow. Sell and promote a handset line for years and just drop it as far as updates for loyal paying customers...
Thinking about taking all 5 of my lines to another carrier.
