Is there any way to tell if the 517 is a hardware or software issue i.e. it could be either so is there any way to know for sure which one it is?
Ok so I cleaned out the registry of rim stuff and then reinstalled the dm and device software and i can load 296 and 317. seemed to be a problem with a corruption on the pc i.e. it had nothing to do with the 9900.
Hi Hardslog, after reading the complete post here. I think there is some issue with your phone's hardware and if the issue persists on this device, go ahead with a replacement. 9900 have been known to work perfectly and your's should too work properly.
i can NOT believe this, I know how to fix it, and now im on my second round... in 3 days. I've tried 2 different operating systems...
I'm going to go to bell and inquire. This is not right at all
Nope, it was software. Thanks for the suggestion though but I eventually used JL_CMDER to reset to factory settings, then used the app loader to put on .296 and its been running smooth ever since.
got a replacement device and during the OS upgrade ERROR again ! I'm getting frustrated...
I just got this same error today. "JVM 517". Going to go home and try to reload the OS. Wish me luck.
I just got this Java Virtual Machine error 517.. Sucks man, i didnt even get to back up my device yet.. will try to reload os
I'm on my second JVM 517 error in two months. I bought the phone in late August and had my first crash on September 13th and again today October the 17th. Does anybody have a known fix for this? Has anybody had a failure with one of the newer leaked versions of the OS7?
Today he phone froze while browsing in the web browser. The browser reset 3 or 4 times for no reason and then froze, after the alt-shift-delete and came back with the JVM 517 error.
Any 3rd party apps loaded on your device?
Yes a few but according to this link from Rim its likely hardware related. I called Rogers and they're sending me a replacement based on my two errors and the information in that link.
I just had the same problem. I ended up using bbsak to do a factory reset then had to use the apploader to install the new o.s. so far its working fine. I did learn to have my blackberry protect set to backup daily.
I realise this is an old thread, but.....I just got my own white screen of death.
JVM Error 517.
Come on, RIM. You're losing my good will.
